1st team - in top two looking for promotion.

2nd team - in bottom two, floundering and staring at relegation due to first team pilfering 4-5 players every weekend, but won on Saturday

3rd team - middling

4th team - in top two

Mid-Week team - promoted as champions to premier league having not lost a game

Junior section - various age groups getting better by the season.

Hows about you?

Me..

who do you play for Untouchable?

yup NW beat Frecheville 1sts on Saturday.. NW should have won the league by now.

2nds lost heavily again at Tickhill.

And MobileB, it should be a good game, as always, at our place on Monday.. Attock v Darnall. I think Attock will be too strong but you never know. The atmosphere should be fantastic again. Looking forward to it, just hope the sun comes out.

Rumour tells me there's going to be a big crowd there tonight. The programme for tonights match talks about "Will the real Darnall please stand up". Their game against Sheff Friends last week was superb. Can't ever recall a last ball like it. 39 to win from two overs Friends needed. 11 from last over. Two to win off last ball, run out trying to make up the second run and then umpire calls one short so Darnall win by one run. Totally amazing.

I heard Saturdays game was a good one with exciting finish at your place. I think NW are something like effectively three wins clear at the top which should just about do it although they always fade at end of season you know. Two defeats on trot started to show the inconsistencies!

I heard about the Darnall v Sheff Friends result.. thats one brave or stupid umpire LOL

Yep, Frecheville were 30 runs short of a win I reckon.. I just got back from Tickhill in time to see the final run chase.

Me and my lad will walk round to tonights game (can't get in the car park). He loves it because theres always a bit of needle and we can sit back and enjoy it. I just hope it's better than the Darnall v Bents Green semi.. what a waste of time that was.

your right about one thing, Attock as well as Darnall will be well pumped up for this game.

If the last game between these two is anything to go by, there sure is going to be quite some bickering on the wicket.

cant wait

Come on Bois (Attock not Darnall)

I was at that last game between them. There certainly was a few handbags flying around. Seems to be the case with Darnall - Sheff Works had same problems. But last Wednesday both sides on their best behaviour in what was a very tense finish.

Umpire was doing his job btw and both sides after an initial groan accepted the decision.

Fair comment.. just takes a brave man to call a short run on the last ball LOL in ANY game.

Bit of an anti-climax in the end, although some magnificent fielding. The catch that got Zahoor was outstanding. I think the 60 odd from the last three overs just took the game away from Attock, but Asad Butt's bowling (3 for 9 from 4 overs) was what won the game. Booby batted well but I would have given the MOM to Asad not Booby.

Wavey
03-08-2004, 08:17
Yep, I have to agree, the prize couldn't have gone to a nicer bloke than Booby but Asad was outstanding. Did they hit a single boundary off him? We were laughing because Booby was like a gazelle in the field.. different bloke to the Saturday Booby LOL still a class act though.
The 60 runs at the end of Darnalls innings completely threw Attock. And, like you say, the catch that got Zahoor took the wind out of their sails good and proper.
Asad was virtually unplayable in the bad light (which didn't help), Naz couldn't get him off the square hardly, and when he did he found a fielder.
A bit of an anti-climax but some good cricket none the less. It's a good thing for the league that someone else won the trophy. Everyone else will take heart and Attock will come back with all guns blazing no doubt.

There was a bit of that going on last night as well.
Next season should be fun.

MobileB

I think Caribbean could surprise a few clubs next season. I know you beat them comfortably twice but they are a young side that will be a year older and a year stronger. I hear Avesta are talking about wanting to come out of the Premier Division as well in which case the Committee may invite a club in rather than promote the third club because of the problems with Dronfield this season. In which case Eckington or Khan XI could also provide a bit more strength. Should be very interesting I agree.

Wavey
03-08-2004, 10:58
I heard about Avesta too. The league needs a good Carribean side for sure. Eckington would spice things up, what with them being our local rivals LOL
Who plays for Khan Xl then?

We have a lot of good young uns coming through but most are a couple of years off the midweek standard just yet. We set up the junior sections a couple of years back and it's beginning to bear fruit already. We came through the juniors in the 70s and they let it die out for some stupid reason through the 80s and 90s. Even in our early 30s we were some of the youngest players!

MobileB
03-08-2004, 11:05
I don't think you were alone in that. Alot of clubs did and that is part of the problems with the game locally at moment. Having said that, I remember being involved in the mid 80's with a club that wanted to put a team in the Junior League. Their application was rejected because the club were not a Saturday side but just a club that had a team in the Midweek. How short sighted was that? Those lads were interested and wanted to be involved in cricket at a local level but they were blocked because of some "traditionalists"

Khan XI have a kid playing for them called Arsalan Mir. He's playing with Shiregreen on a Saturday - along with a couple of their other players - and is a Pakistan U-19 international. One certainly to keep an eye on. They gave Attock a run for their money in semi final of the cup

THE_ONE
03-08-2004, 11:19
Arsalan's a great, down to earth guy

So far this season, he's taken 41 wickets and averages around 49 with the bat for Shiregreen.

If he's around next season, he's one player to look out for

Cheers

I'd have to say Frecheville naturally LOL (probably best when the first team is at home).. decent ground, good bar serving Smiths and Magnet (mmmMM Magnet).

We played at Tickhill last week and I have to say thats one of the nicest locations to play cricket. Bradfield is a lovely ground. Wickersley is a great ground with a top notch team. Parkhead by the Wheatsheaf pub is always a lovely place to watch cricket. Theres usually a good game to be found at Phoenix etc etc

There's some fabulous cricket to be seen midweek too. Hunt out games involving Attock, Darnall, SWD, Khan, Bents Green and the like.

When I remember the website I'll post it here.. I'm sure MobileB will know it.

Tonight is the last week of the Midweek Alliance season. If you want to see a cracking game Attock v Bents Green is the one. Its the top two in the League, although Attock have already won the League. Expect to see a number of internationals on duty.

Game is at Caribbean ground in Ecclesfield and starts at 6.15pm.

Wavey

or you could watch Coal Aston v Frecheville in the division below to see if Frecheville can go a full season unbeaten.. Attock/Bents Green might be better though LOL

Tell you what Wavey, I don't think I've ever seen George Kempton move as quick as when that shot came towards him on Monday evening. The way it landed on the bench in exactly the spot he was sat and he'd shifted about 20 yards by the time it landed!!!!!! Poor fella needed his Magnet after that!!
