I really like the Redcap! There again, it was pretty much my local for years ....... keep out of the Jordo, assuming it's having one of its sporadic opening spells ....... I went in 'the Burberry Room' once with an Ireland rugby shirt on ....... the natives looked at me like I was food .......

worst pub i've been in is the tramway before it got shut down. but i'll vote for the swim in or yates. I prefer a naff rough pub with carliing and stones plus meat raffle than a crap chain bars

Farfield & Beeley Wood take some beating..

Wetherspoons aren't fantastic, but they are good for a cheap drink after work (I work shifts, so finishing at 9, getting a few pints in and getting the last bus is pretty easy). The foods pretty nice for cheap food as well.

The swimm inn isn't a bad place to start a pub crawl down West Street either...

no the Jordo looks very clean from outside they paint it every 2 weeks to cover up the graffiti and have new windows every month :)

It's not been done out in I think nearly 20 years. The walls / ceilings are nicotine yellow, it's smokey, the seats have tears in them as does the carpet in places, its dark and dingy and I understand that since the entertainment licence went up, they took out the Juke Box, the Dart Board, the background music and all the tellys so only thing in there is a fruit machine.

To cap it all, this year the brewery allegedly refused to pay for any flowers in the hanging baskets so they were empty as well.

The landlord's a good bloke but his hands are tied.

The Scream at Broomhill is pretty bad as well. Bit like a 1960's working mans club inside. Total timewarp and dark and dingy also.

Seems to be a great division of opinions on the Redcap.. I on my part do like it, I prefer a quiet drink when you don't have to shout to have a conversation..and yes, the decor is a bit drab, but the fabulous Sam Smith's beer more than makes up for it! Just wish there were more Sam Smith's pubs in Sheffield!Rare example of something that is cheap but quality:-)

When talking about cheap but quality I presume you mean the beer, because carpets held together with gaffer tape, torn seating and nictonine stained walls and cielings aren't my idea of quality.

Personally I'd rather pay £2.00 a pint and have nice surroundings than £1.50 and drink in a dump, might as well take a can down the local refuse tip if you're going to do that!

I think the Weatherspoons in Sheffield have a certain character. After growing up in Rotherham I find it endearing to have places where you can still mingle with old folks boozing at 9 in the morning. Now Walkabout - theres a *****hole.

The sight of a 60 year old prostitute in a leopard skin cat-suit threatening her pimp with a broken stout bottle was most entertaining.

The place that was Berlins must rank as one of the worst ever. I once went in (drunkenly and alone, having just been deserted by my mates) a few years ago, and the place smelled like violence, with faint undertones of human turd. I left ASAP.

i remember the south seas in broomhill being a bit ropey, but that was a few years ago. they've painted the outside since then, so perhaps it's improved. it always felt like a weird box

Hare and Hounds in Stannington Village. Was so bad it now has shut down.

I used to moan about the Sportsman being full of chavs in its heyday, but the Hare and Hounds was even worse apart from that they did decent meals at one time.

Top House (Crown and Glove) used to be decent as well back when Mick and Cath had it, then the Brewery hiked their rent so they left, and some muppet came in, hiked the price of the beer, and changed the format of the quiz.. Now hardly anyone goes in there.. :(

The Cremorne London Road - gone right down the nick since the last landlord left - beer is crap and toilets are full of it - place needs a serious clean

What about the Three Cranes down behind the Cathedral? Maybe I'm being harsh. But it's a nice old building and could be a really great pub given its location. Unfortunately it is filthy and smells of old chip fat. The floorboards in the main bar also creak hilariously when anyone walks in - reminds me of CJ's chairs in Reggie Perrin.

Amazingly, the beer is quite good - a cool and creamy hand-pulled pint of Stones.

Its still there! You should try it......... but be afraid, very afraid!!!

Have to agree,I have regular encounters with the patrons of the Sportsman and all in all the seem to be a friendly bunch and you can always have a laugh with them.
The Turnbull however is slightly different as it can get a little rowdy and is prone to gangs of kids hanging about outside.
