Fire started in the upstairs of THE TASTE OF INDIA restaurant and has spread to other buildings in the block.

Was wiseguy in attendance? and does that mean I'll have to cancel my booking for tonight?

Nobody is hurt. According to the news everyone managed to get out of the buildings.

When I first I heard the news I thought the council may finally have driven someone to set the place on fire!

My daughter just called me to tell me about this. The whole four shops have gone and one of the firemen she was talking to said they'd been "set on fire".

Lets hope no-one was hurt.

I don't live too far away from there, off the bottom of Walkley Lane. I hope the smoke isn't too bad - if my missus's washing is affected there'll be hell to pay!

Had to make a wide detour to get home, grab camera and caught the end of it.

Holme lane? you mean Bradfield road. I hope it didn't reach Farmfoods as there will be no frozen produce left.

At first glance the pork sandwich shop seems to have escaped, though possibly not from smoke damage.

After the fire:

Apparently, whilst the fire brigade were still there, a flat on Regent Court set alight too! Some of the fire crew from the shops fire had to go to Regent Court and put it out!! No-one was hurt there either.

Wonder if the same idea crossed anyone's mind before the conflagration?

It was a very interesting afternoon, I was heading for Dunn Elms saw the cop car at the Tram gates stopping traffic going down rounded the corner to see all the smoke.

Thought initially they had cut the road off to everyone, but it was just the far end.

My sister in law and her immediate family are in mourning as that is their fav indian.

Have to say tho - the area could do with demolishing.

Farmfoods of Hillsborough, probably the finest frozen food retail outlet in Yorkshire with car parking facilities on the doorstep, is unaffected.

It is a separate building from the one gutted by the fire.

PS...

Full your freezer with Farmfood - it's cheaper to run.

I have read in today's star that the fire was caused by an electrical fault , under the floorboards of one of the flats above taste of india.
