View Full Version : How do I 'host' my (publisher) web page
fierysatsuma 12-09-2006, 12:32 I've bought a domain from 123-reg and I have now put together a small site in Publisher - only 4 basic pages.
What do I do about hosting this site?
I know 123-reg do it but only for free if 1-page. Is there anyone who does say, a 12-month free offer?
Thanks
www.saveitfree.com - but they put up a popup on your first page, its not too annoying, www.gw-radio.com/blog/ to see what its like.. Thats hosted on them..
Who is ypur internet connection with?
Im with BT - So I host mine on there - point my domain there from 123reg and it works fine. For what I want to gain from it that is!
sallonoroff 12-09-2006, 14:47 Yeah, your ISP will probably offer you a small amount of free webspace... maybe 15-25MB.

Yes it is, pop-ups are very annoying.
A couple of cheap pay-for options for you:
www.jswf.co.uk < £10/year
www.catalyst2.com < £11.99 (+VAT)/year

Agreed.
And it looks unprofessional if the site is something business-related.

I allowed the scripts inserted by the host to run... Bloody scared me ^%$%less:D.

never say there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Only 100meg of data transfer per month though:(.
fnkysknky 12-09-2006, 18:38 I presume that's where they make their money though. You sign up for a free account but then have to pay once you go over 100meg which is highly likely if it's anything but a small personal site with limited pictures. They give you 2.5gb webspace and then 100meg a month limit, lol.
fnkysknky 12-09-2006, 18:44 Just had a quick look at their 'Starter Professional' package and you get 2.5gig storage and 10gig monthly data transfer, 1000 email boxes, php, sun asp etc. which doesn't seem too bad for £2.49/month plus £9.99 set up fee. Not sure what they're like though as I've never heard of them.
they advertise a lot in the industry magazines. they're a big player.
fnkysknky 12-09-2006, 19:22 There's that many I don't take much notice anymore and I don't get any web development magazines - just a general one. I just have one company that I tend to stick with as they've always been superb.
Having said that it does look like a good deal.
EDIT: Just noticed that there are no databases included in that deal and the next one up is £8.99/month which is a massive difference.
fnkysknky 12-09-2006, 19:26 Do any of these mentioned support FrontPage extensions though? If not then they might not be much use to the OP.

Only on the "Home", "Business" & "Reseller" packages:(.
They also charge an additional £19.99 for AV scanning:o.
