HI PEEPS

Sorry for not replying to your lovely comments about the show, but been very traumatic since Thursday. Alice had been off for a couple of days and was contemplating taking her to the vets the next day for a check. I was getting ready to go see a friend of mine in hospital about 2.30 on thursday Alice as usual was on the bed but this time was very strange. she was making funny noises and frantically digging all the bed up. This is usual for her about 9 weeks after season as she always thinks shes having babies.but this time was different she suddenly collasped and all horrible stuff started pouring out of her. I knew this was serius. "PANIC" Got on the phone to vet was told get her there straight away. I made the vets in 20 mins (taking into account I live by junction 31 of the M1 and the vet is about 5 miles away from junction 35) good job there was no polioce on there that day, but maybe they would have got me there quicker who knows. Anyway they were ready for Alice and took her straight to theatre. Aparantly it looked like she had had a closed pyometra for some time and not shown any pain, then suddenly it burst. She was very lucky as if she had done this after I had left she would have been dead by the time I got back. i have never been so scared in my life. Any way shes home now, fine, and decided that she has definatley got babies. All the toys that we thought she lost have suddenly appeared and we get them all to look after while she makes beds for them all and she has got milk to feed them as well, so when she went for a check yesterday the vet had to give her someting to stop all this now./ Now we just wait for her to make a complete recovery, and stitches out on saturday, so anybody on here with an unspayed bitch please keep a check on discharge and get it checked straight away.

Takara had some discharge after her season which has cleared up now but I did get her checked over by the vet in case of pyo.

It is so serious and anyone with an unspayed bitch should be aware of how dangerous this infection is, it's the main reason I'm so stuck on whether or not to spay Takara. We may want to breed from her but do we risk pyo?

I'm glad Alice is feeling better now. My thoughts go out to you.

Thanks for your kind words of concern for Alice all still going well at the moment

I'd like to re-iterate (sp) the pyo thing. We almost lost our yorkie when she was eight to this awful condition. The vet said if we'd had her spayed it wouldn't have happened. She had to have a full hyserecomy and was very poorly for a long time afterwards. She eventually recovered and went on to live another 5 yrs.
Because of this, we had our Angel spayed at 6mths...I'd NEVER want to go thru that again.
I do wish it were cheaper tho...

(sorry to butt in, but I just had to mention it...hope it all goes well)

Update on alice
Had her stitches out today (saturday) missed a visit to darlington champ show but what the hell she comes first had a little hicup with a bit of infection round her wound but anti biotics have worked milk all gone now and shes not making as many beds as she has been still looking after the babies tho lol alice is thru the worst now and getting back to her normal naughty self and i`m £626 down but shes worth it

poor Alice, pyo is a dreadful thing, have had our Mollie spayed and just waiting for Rosie to mature enough to get her done, she is three years old but has only had one very short season, vet not happy to do her yet, apparently because she is a particularly tall and skinny lurcher......anyway he gave me a long explanation but too long for here. Good luck to your poor girl
