View Full Version : Anyone been to Majorca?? LUCY LASTIC 11-09-2006, 20:17 We are planning on going next year. Has anyone been?? We are taking a 15 year old and a 17 year old, brother and sister with us who are very hard to please. Has anyone any ideas on where to go?? Zebra 11-09-2006, 20:25 Depends on what time of year. We went slightly out of season one year, in autumn, stayed in a lovely hotel in Paguera (http://www.majorca-mallorca.co.uk/paguera.htm) and we were bored rigid. In season, plenty of clubs, bars, touristy stuff going on, a couple of fun evenings things to do, big coach trip jobs and a couple of interesting places to see by day, inc Caves of Drac and a couple of interesting markets. Not my idea of a good holiday personally and we won't be going again. Jinxster 11-09-2006, 20:28 Yeah Ibiza. Zebra 11-09-2006, 20:30 Yep, even I liked Ibiza better and I'm not into the tourist stuff generally. Now Egypt on the other hand..... bliss! LUCY LASTIC 11-09-2006, 20:31 We are going in the first two weeks of JUly, to Cala Millor I think, but hav'nt booked anywhere yet. We need somewhere thats lively enough for teenagers but not too noisey for us older ones. tom3t0 11-09-2006, 20:32 enojoyed it, im more into appreciating the scenery than going clubbing everynight i can do that in sheffield, i remember there were some nice beaches you could pretty much have to yourselves if you were willing to walk, and some decent bike rides, google it! peardrops 11-09-2006, 20:55 We absolutely loved Majorca and would definitely go back again. Our kids were very young about 3 and 4 years old and stayed on Porto Columb. Probably not the best for kids you are taking. Alcudia is a better bet for kids their age or even Palma or Cala D'Or. I hope you go, I would love to go back. hmr44 11-09-2006, 21:03 We always used to go to Palma and Cala D'Or when I was little! I loved it and had some happy memories there :) LUCY LASTIC 11-09-2006, 21:06 I would prefer something with good retaurants and sightseeing but the kids want something a bit more lively. Could do with something for both, but theres no pleasing them either way..Might just leave them at home and go to Nice peardrops 11-09-2006, 21:08 Cala D'Or has pub and bars for the youngsters but some beautiful scenery and restaurants. Not too loud for when you wish to go to sleep before the sun comes up too! LUCY LASTIC 11-09-2006, 21:10 Thanks for the info, Sounds like cala dor might be the place to go. hmr44 11-09-2006, 21:11 ..Might just leave them at home and go to Nice :hihi: If I was a parent - I'd do this if I could! clogginchris 11-09-2006, 21:24 Mallorca is a beautiful place - fantastic scenery, beaches etc, and some lovely towns and villages. Calla Millor is very touristy - lots of concrete hotels and british pubs! Go for somewhere like Cala d'Or or Puerto Pollenca. Enought nightlife for teenagers, some lovely restuarants and not far from lovely countryside and scenery. LUCY LASTIC 11-09-2006, 21:33 oooh, spoilt for choice now, gonna have to do a little more research Grandad.Malky 11-09-2006, 21:58 Just a quick snap shot:- the lively tourist resorts are near to the airport , the north is nice but more Germans and the south is quieter , take your pick. surfinjim 11-09-2006, 23:22 Went to Sa Coma last year and Cala D'Or this year. Cala D'Or is the larger and slightly more livelier of the two. Both very family orientated, and I mean this at the under 12 catergory. Wherever you pick, make sure you get to the Pirates show in Magaluf. Seen it both years and would go again tomorrow. Fantastic show for all ages. Has anyone any ideas on where to go?? magaluf its good! but your prob better off going to palma nova, which still is good! angle20 12-09-2006, 10:51 magaluf its good! but your prob better off going to palma nova, which still is good! Yes, the Palma Nova/Magaluf area has the best nightlife but it's also fairly near to the main town, Palma, and some of the best sightseeing areas up the west coast in the Deia/Soller area. Grandad.Malky 12-09-2006, 10:53 magaluf its good! but your prob better off going to palma nova, which still is good! Palma nova, near enough to Magaluf to walk, but far enough away to escape worst of nightlife! kimmie 12-09-2006, 10:56 i spent my first holiday there, when i was 12! we went to cala san vicnete, and stayed in the hotel don pedro. its a lovely place with its own beach, there aint no clubs etc nearby but they do great entertainement within the hotel! there is also a bus close by that runs you straight into the main towns where you can go shopping etc. in palma nova GazB 12-09-2006, 10:58 Palma Nova. That way you can leave the young 'uns at home (or take them with you?) and walk into Magaluf. It's a dive, but it's the best part of Majorca for the young 'n' lively. If you're looking for a quiet one, I'd also say Cala D'or. SheShe 12-09-2006, 11:40 Been about 7 times and we're going again next year. We always stay in Palmanova. That way it's turn left for quiet and right for life in Magaluf (which isn't half as bad as some people make it seem) You MUST see the Pirate show and the caves of Drach, go on the glass bottom boat, and the train into the mountains. Get the ferry to Palma and see the old town and the cathedral. The water park is fantastic. As you can tell we're biased cos we love it but there is something for all ages. |
