View Full Version : Why have petrol prices dropped?
Cardboard 11-09-2006, 14:23 Anyone know why the petrol prices have dropped so much recently? Is there a surplus?!
I'm not compaining - just curious as to why they have come down so much so quickly...
Blade1983 11-09-2006, 14:26 dunno - was thinking the same the other day!
probably just to keep us on our toes!
maybe to lure us into faulse sense of security - all buy 4x4's and then hike the price?! who knows!
enjoy it while it lasts!
I think it is something to do with "threats" ie war/ pipe lines not working / Russia not playing fare (all big stories a few months ago).
And now its all gone quiet - so they lower their prices because there is no threat (or less of one).
The price of oil has dropped so the prices drop to suit.

they must have dropped a lot for us to get 10% discount within just a few weeks!
Twoflags 11-09-2006, 14:36 Price war between ASDA TESCO and Morrisons. Other stations drop to follow the trend. Unless it's BP, see to think it acceptable to still charge 95p a litre when it's 6p cheaper throughout the city.

Spot on!
They have dropped for several reasons:
1. A large deposit of Oil has been suposedly found in the Gulf of Mexico
2. Israel / Lebanese conflict has ended
3. The summer is mostly over and hence the american market will need less fuel for now... until winter
4. The BP oilfield in Alaska will not after all be totally shut down because of safety fears
I'm sure there are other reasons...

There is sooo much good news in the world for the oil market (see my post above) so the marketeers are calming down. It's a stupid paranoid world!:suspect:

so u mean, the combination of it all.....that makes sense.
Pretty much that.... sadly as soon as something happens (like a few hurricanes hitting the gulf of Mexico rigs this next month) the price will be back up.
2wentypence 11-09-2006, 15:25 It might be a good idea to buy a tanker full and store it at these prices.
Cardboard 11-09-2006, 15:27 im gonna waterproof my garage and fill it up with petrol (best fireproof it too).
Now I just have to figure out how to get my garage to the petrol station....
You could set a couple of pumps on the drive way and call yourself BP :>
