View Full Version : So who wants to walk 22nd, 23rd or 24th of September?
Because if you do it might be nice to post suggestions here, well in advance, so that people may be able to arrange something.
Please indicate what level of walk you are interested in so like minded people can PM each other
We may already be busy that weekend :(
purdyamos 10-09-2006, 21:02 Please make it the Saturday or Sunday so I can go! I haven't got anything booked that weekend. I'm up for anything, but would prefer it not to be too much of a punishing test of endurance.
Will be free Saturday and Sunday.
Personally speaking I'll be up for a good 10 or so mile hike around the hills on Saturday or Sunday.
Just remembered I can't make the Friday as aparently I'm supposed to be working - Tut!

Quite agree. The last two walks I've been on in the peaks have been either long or included a sharp ascent but on both of them the pace of walking was nothing like a route march. There were far too many nice views or things to photograph rather than be stomping across the moors like a para.
I'd love to attend this Taxman. Friday, Saturday or Sunday would be good. Around 7 miles seems to be quite undemanding if you have all day, even for an old geezer like me. I might bring pup - hopefully Strix will be there to whip her into shape!

Will be free on the Friday as well as my new boss has agreed to me working Mon-Thurs from next week :)

Brilliant! Well done:thumbsup:

If Strix goes, she'll be very busy keeping a beagle in check :suspect:
I'm up for a walk on Saturday. Failing that, sitting in a pub and not mentioning the word 'Walking' once is also fine by me.
purdyamos 20-09-2006, 11:54 Yes, what's happening? Where are we going?? We need leadership! Who's idea was this... :suspect:
Working Friday now [off on magical mystery tour on Thursday] but free saturday and sunday for whatever shenanigans are arranged :o)
Well if no-one has any concrete suggestions for either day I'll check out some routes around Edale / Hathersage and PM people who've expressed an interest
sunday 24th 1pm
A circular walk around fox hagg, wyming brook, headstone, redmires.
Car drivers can park in the car park at the Sportsman Inn on Redmires Road.
Bus types get the 51(?) to Lodge Moor terminus, the walk begins on the opposite side of the road about 50 yards up from the bus stop.
Should take 4 ish hours but can be made longer with extra turns. Finishes in Pub
ANY TAKERS???
PM me if any other details needed
Still looking for ideas for Saturday
That sounds rather good, but I'm away so I can't make it... damn:mad:
purdyamos 20-09-2006, 23:00 Another one minus two cats. :D
Saturday 23rd
In the absence of other suggestions I'm going exploring. I'm going to go and buy a map this lunchtime then on Saturday I'm going to get a bus to somewhere like Baslow or Bakewell then I'm going to mooch around checking out routes, scenery and tea shops.
If I find any worthwhile walks I'll file them away for future reference.
Anyone who wants to come and potter about with me let me know
Tartempion 21-09-2006, 10:41 Can anyone come on these walks? I'd like to join you sometime if it's ok.
Phanerothyme 21-09-2006, 10:46 Sunday looks good. Don't have a dog, but do have a 5 year old.
Tartempion 21-09-2006, 10:56 I could come on Sunday if it was earlier, say 11am start. Only I need to be in Hillsborough for about quarter to 4. Am I asking too much as a non-member of the walking group...?

Sure, anyone can come along, the more the merrier!
Don't think I can change the time for Sunday though you may be able to duck out of the walk half way through.
Hmmmm.....thinks
Tartempion 21-09-2006, 11:17 I don't want to get lost on the moooors! Maybe I'll just leave it til next time - unless you're going to come up with a cunning plan.:)

If you were familiar with the area it would be a doddle. The whole place is just a series of circular paths. If you knew someone who could come with you or if someone else fancies just doing half the walk then I reckon you'd be OK

Excellent! New blood for the group!

That makes it sound like we do child sacrifices on pagan millstones, or something. :suspect:

Well we have done the cemetary and there's the force feeding of poisonous mushrooms walk to come :hihi:
Tartempion: the only 'membership requirement' is that you come on a walk! Once you've done that (and undergone the initiation ceremony ;) ) then you're a full-bloodied member!

This sounds like a nice walk, but the thing is ive not been very well this week and will probably be spending most of this weekend catching up on some sleep! I'll see how i feel on Saturday.
btw i forgot to say before, I dont have a car so I would be one of your bus types! How many others here would be going by bus?

I'd be going by bus. The walk's not at all difficult, is clearly marked and closeish to Lodge Moor bus stop for those who want to just do a bit then dip out half-way through
purdyamos 21-09-2006, 22:15 I'm a bus person. Presumably, given the sunday timtable is sparser, we'll end up aiming for the same bus.
Have just visited the First timetable page. There is a bus (51 yellow line) that leaves Arundel Gate at 12 04, reaching Lodge Moor at 12 25. There is also one from Arundel Gate at 12 24 getting to Lodge Moor at 12 45. There's also one that gets there at 1 05 but that would make us late. :nono:
Sunday looks good. Don't have a dog, but do have a 5 year old.
Does said 5 year old come with mud proof clothing? ;)
*eyes 'pretending-butter-wouldn't-melt' beagle on sofa* :suspect:
Will be going along on Sunday... hope weather is as nice as yesterday's walk !

Just had a nice "billy no mates" wander from Fox House to Baslow.
Saw plenty of interesting Fungi in Longshaw then headed out over Froggatt, Curber and Baslow edges then down into Baslow where I found I'd missed my bus. Never mind, an excuse for a pint!
At £3.50 return fare I think this is a bargain and I may include it on our list of walks to do!
I'll be coming to this one. Where are we actually meeting, assuming we don't bump into each other on the 51?

Meeting across the road from the terminus, about 50 yards up, where there is a bridleway sign. I'm sure we'll all spot each other anyway
Well that was rather successful and enjoyable! Six humans plus one dog and a couple of rather nice pints to finish the day off.
Thanks to all who came!!

Hey thanx to Taxman for a fab walk, and the Strix's for much appreciated lift home. Learnt lots about how to look after pets today, and also why you shouldnt buy bagless Vacuum cleaners. A most educational walk
Will put snaps online tomorrow night...
Apologies for the late start  (parkway roadworks, mutter, mutter...)
A fabulous day, sunburn, sore feet.... Great :D
Brude is exhausted (now sleeping on sofa :D )
we are so glad we joined this group, else we'd have gone back to bed this morning having seen THAT rain  :hihi:
purdyamos 24-09-2006, 22:06 A lovely day, including one of my favourite spots, Wyming Brook. Here are the better half of my photos. Some of them looked perfect on my computer screen, but disintegrated when I tried uploading them to photobucket. I don't know why. So no dead rabbit, beautiful logs and fly agaric. :(
My pictures (http://s94.photobucket.com/albums/l115/purdyamos/Lodge%20Moor%20and%20beyond/)
They're best viewed last til first! I wish I'd picked up that sheep's skull...
Nice Pics Purdy :)
My faves are your trees and sunlight - oh, and the water ones too :)
I think stone and tree is a bit special
Lovely pics, Ms PurdyA. I liked the leaves in shade, tho the water on the waterfall worked well too. And lots of other good un's too!
Re the sheep's skull - my friend used to collect them on walks and take them home (she walked with a bin liner specially for the purpose) to put on her front window windowsill, facing outwards. She said it worked a treat to keep the kids in the street away from her car! (Personally, I reckon it was the witch's broom she kept propped up against the bin that did it.....) ;)
A very enjoyable walk, thanks Taxman for coming up with that one; great to meet Grissom and Mr Strix for the first time.
and Brude of course, good to see the disobedience classes are working so well.
He's a Beagle  They come like that ;) just a nose on legs
After much swearing at my laptop my photos are now online  :)
Go to www.rtapper.plus.com and look for the Fox Hag link in the 'Places' folder

Cool!
The waterfalls are great and the Sheep skull is very impressive!
purdyamos 26-09-2006, 00:07 Excellent as ever, Grissom. Here's a tip, though - next time, can you not take pictures of the same views as me, you show me up with my little point and shoot! :hihi:
Glad you like the pics
Okey doke - hows about this - whilst walking along I photograph everything to the left and behind us, whilst you take photos of whats on our right and in front ? :)
