It seems a pity that all that energy generated by the sweating folk at the city's gyms isn't converted into electricity.
This could keep the pensioners houses warm -or charge up
mobile phones and vibrators.Get to it you local Varsity boffins and create something useful when you get back from your holidays in October.

Good idea, then you could get money knocked off the price of your membership. It would be the electrical equivalent to strawberry picking. Kind of.

Get the old folk walking, produce their own energy.

Old folks are too idle to walk these days. They want everything doing for them -shopping,cleaning and meals on wheels. No wonder their joints sieze up.Free teeth, telly licence and doorchains. And a £300 fuel handout every Xmas.
Are they grateful. Not likely. All they do is moan about the weather and buses and the price of Fox's Glacier Mints.
Yet come the holiday season and they are off to exotic climes on Saga cruises -silver hair all corrugated (pensioner cheap rate midweek),or lording it up on a Wallace Arnold Turkey and Tinsel trip. While the rest of us are working away.
Old folks don't know how lucky they are.No wonder they are always getting robbed or taken in by smoothtalking conmen because they are the ones with money spilling out of their wardrobes.

I quite agree Bazzo. In my day Old people accepted their lot and died happily of consumption! None of this moaning and Swaning off to Portugal and coming back with skin cancer and a cheap bottle of oozo! Everytime I go out I bump in to some whinging old pensioner who wants to chew off my ear about some sordid fiscal bonanza that they are not happy with. It's got to the stage that I'm frightened to go out. Gangs of them hanging around on street corners at all hours of the morning. I tell you its not safe out there anymore. And what is Tony Blair going to do about it I want to know?

Oi!
Just because I am old doesn't mean that I sit on street corners O/D'ing on Werthers Originals. OK so I can't say that I have never tried a Werthers but it was purely social you understand and it did nothing for me.
Can't stop now I'm off on the coach to Spain for the winter.

Um, don't type in all uppercase, it's very bad "netiquette" cos it looks like you're shouting at us.

H Folks

Funny, but its actually true, we do produce our own electricity in the gym!

Most running , bicycle, climbing machines digital display runs on electricity from you actually using the equipment!

Not all, but the next time you visit a gym, check out if there is any visable leads to the unit!

i think most running machines are actually powered. Unless it's my thoughts that start that treadmill turning.
The rest do produce some power as you say.
I'm not sure that it would be feasible to convert the power from resistance machines, or that it would actually generate much.

Hi Cyclone, your actually correct, most treadmills are powered by electricity!

But having a treadmill, rowing machine, cycle machine also in my gym in the home, the other machines displays are all powered by the energy you generate from the equipment to display heart rate, work out program etc!

In fact the display on the treadmill actually takes batteries, even though the trend is 240volts!

Checked the gym in Kilasmarsh, Eckington and Dronfield and pondforge, all the gyms had equipment that used electricity that was produced and generated by the user, even though some of the equipment was pluged into the mains supply!
