View Full Version : Dodgy DVD sellers in Sheffield City Center
snowboarder 18-07-2004, 14:47 Has anyone seen the two black gentlemen with leather coats and gold chains openly flogging current cinema films on DVD-R's? I have seen them twice outside UCI of all places as people were coming out and flogging disks for £5 each...Harry potter, Shrek 2, Garfield, etc all the current movies showing.
And they were going up and down the Moor on Saturday flogging stuff from a case....had quite a crowd round them including a Police woman who suddenly appeared from nowhere asking to see a trading licence I think she said, and they took off as fast as two very fast black gentlemen in shiny black leather coats with gold jewellery can possibly run.......should have been a movie in itself....they left a case of dodgy disks spread all over the pavement and everyone helped themselves, including me. Crappy camcorder job inside the Odeon it looked like.....
ultracynic 18-07-2004, 15:56 lol, remember the playstation etc games they used to sell near the bandstand on the moor?
i once saw them all scarper when their lookout shouted "coppers"
ToryCynic 18-07-2004, 16:20 We have Vietnamese guys going round the bootfares and pubs selling movies that have only just hit the cinema - ours have the artwork on them. and they are in plasticy wrappers - however when they come in the usual boxes they are bad photocopies for the artwork

It has, and it was indeed over at Crystal Peaks.
The only cinema in Town now is the Odeon, and even that's going to shut soon as part of the Council's plan to "do up" the Arundel Gate area.. WTF?!

Hi
FYI - you can report pirate copies of films etc being distributed under the 'Anti Piracy' section on the FACT website :
http://www.fact-uk.org.uk/
On the site you'll find all kinds of stories including a boot fair where 6 people were arrested with 2,300 dodgy items and arrested under immigration matters
gracejanet 19-07-2004, 19:23 hi,
my two sons attend a local secondary school and came home rather bemused that they had been shown dodgy dvds, the teachers said theyed been filmed in cinema, of shriek 2 and spiderman 2, not shown to warn them off buying them but as entertainment.
No offence - but why should we report the pirates for selling cheap dvd's?

LOL that happened about 10 years ago at our school. I think it was Home Alone 2 we watched? The teachers 'claimed' they didn't know, but really they just wanted to watch it too!
