View Full Version : Lord Of The Rings made of LEAD
Ref TV Advert for Lord Of The Rings Chess Set
Has lead suddenly become safe for children i was under the impression that lead was posionous or am i mistaken ??
I don't see that the figures are aimed at children; adults collect these things as well.
Also, if they're painted, I would expect that there's a sealer coat that is pretty robust.
guest121 06-09-2006, 20:55 dont eat fuppin' lead
lets hope they are sensible adults whose children are no longer teething
babychickens 06-09-2006, 21:05 Lead? Poop. I quite fancied a bit of a chew on Legolas.
If it's made of lead it will be fairly expensive I would think, isn't there a real shortage now? If that is the case it’s probably targeted at adults anyway. You still have to wash your hands after handling raw lead though so be careful. Out of interest how much was it? Not seen the advert, might be tempted :).

If I recall (I saw the advert yesterday) Aragorn was a snip at £2.99. That has nothing to do with vasectomies. I believe the rest may be somewhat more expensive at £6.99.

Fair enough, but come on, parents have to take some responsibility for their offspring.
There's too much emhasis on trying to protect people from their own behaviours today. When I was a kid I played with hundreds of lead soldiers from age 8 onwards. I also used lead based solder from the age of 11, and even cast my own lead alloy soldiers at age 14.
I'm not sure that these figures would be pure lead; from my own experience lead is too soft a metal by itself to hold the detail of a figure. I used an alloy of lead designed for figure casting.
BluePolo 06-09-2006, 21:13 Can you imagine the shape of a piece if you drop it? Lead isn't exactly hard is it...I'd imagine if it was ever used, it wouldn't be long before you couldn't tell who the pieces were.
SpiderPete 06-09-2006, 21:13 I have seen these advertised on TV and if you buy all 32 mags to complete the chess set it will cost in the region of £223 :o
I just saw the ad. Made of pure lead, £2.99 for the first one, £6.99 thereafter and that doesn't include the cost of the chessboard!
SpiderPete 06-09-2006, 21:40 Anyone know the price of the chessboard
Plain Talker 06-09-2006, 22:23 I'm sure it'll be as big a rip-off as the cost of the partworks that builds the set.
£233, for a flippin chess set?
It'd be cheaper to buy the lead and cast your own!

And voluntarily taking the abuse that comes with being Co-Admin doesn't show some evidence of mental impairment?:hihi:

I have a little black book.
ALL the details go in my little black book.
And every night I talk about it to my dear friend Harvey the Rabbit. Oh yes.... :)
The other thing to take into consideration is the length of time before the collection will be complete. 32 pieces in all, coming out every fortnight, 64 weeks. That'll make a nice Xmas present 2007.
You could read the whole trilogy in a shorter time.
