Does anybody know why the Red Lion at Litton has closed its doors to customers?

No. I thought it was a very popular pub.

A note on the door yesterday said that due to the 'present circumstances' the pub would be closed? What the 'present circumstances' are must be pretty bad. Used to be run by a guy called Terry and his wife Michelle complemented by an elderly guy, John. Smashing pub, I hope it opens up again pretty soon.

It still is, or 'was' as the case may be from yesterday?? One of the few left as 'proper pubs' in the Peak District. I'd heard his wife left him a few months ago, could be connected??

OMG for a minute I thought it could have been the only Red Lion I know of which is The Red Lion (http://www.pub-explorer.com/derbyshire/pub/redlionstoneedgechesterfield.htm) on Darley Road, Stone Edge!! That one does excellent food too!!

Have you tried ringing 01298 871458 as you appear to have asked a similar question before before (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=124244) :suspect:

It's not good news I'm afraid,

Terry, the landlord, sadly passed away in his sleep a few weeks ago.

The pub is closed for now as a result. Understandably opening the pub I guess is not the families top priority.

Indeed, sad news people:

We are sorry to report the sad news that Terry, the much loved landlord at the Red Lion, Litton, passed away in his sleep last Saturday, and the pub is temporarily closed. Our condolences go to the family and friends he leaves behind.

Oh that is terrible news-loved that pub and had some good times there outside morris dancing and chatting to Terry over a few pints. Stayed there once a couple of years ago -great for Band B. How sad...
