View Full Version : Protest at the loss of lost-dog police kennels (Woodseats)
I had reason to call Woodseats police station this morning, concerning a lost dog, but I was informed that when the station was re-furbed, their kennels were never reinstated
It has been suggested that if any of us feel strongly enough about the facilities for lost dogs (hint hint), we should write to The District Commander at Moss Way Police Station - to ask for their reinstatement.
Many lost dogs are still being taken to Woodseats, but unfortunately there is nothing this station can do with them any more :(
So does this mean there are 42 people out there who couldn't care less? :suspect:
Lindseyw 07-09-2006, 12:30 I'll do it !!

Probably but everyone is entitled to their opinion :)

Nail and head.
I assume it's the high proportion of cat owners we have as 'pets' members ;)
Lindseyw 07-09-2006, 15:51 Done - I've emailed him. Lets see what he says.
Oooohhhhh, what's his address Lindsey?
kittenta 07-09-2006, 18:35 I'm willing to do it too (only just seen this post, sorry)

Or maybe we read what you had to say and acted upon it without the need to publicise our actions? Just because we dont post DOES NOT mean we dont care.
weenireeni 08-09-2006, 21:03 im not a dog owner but i will write to him, do you have his e-mail address??
thanks :)
Just because we dont post DOES NOT mean we dont care. That's quite unusual for this forum though ;)
Thanks

ah, er, it seems it isn't available to us general public  which is understandable ... unless you can find it online somewhere ;)

krisskross 09-09-2006, 18:01 sent a request for the replacement of the kennels at woodseats police station.
hope it helps
Rainrescue 10-09-2006, 22:32 Can't see that they will ever replace any kennels in any police station. The police don't actually have to pick up dogs any more - this responsibility has been passed to local councils - who don't have the funding to be able to support it.
The situation for stray dogs and what happens to them is just going to get worse. People don't know what happens to them - or don't care because it isn't headline news.
Dogs get collected by some councils in the country - other councils who can't find kennels to even take the stray contract - can't even collect the dogs. For the dogs collected - they are held for just 7 days - usually in the most barest of essential conditions (ie basic shelter, water and food - no bedding or heating even in the coldest of winters) - then after 7 days they are either put up for sale at the gate if the kennels want to do this, they are collected by rescues centres 'sometimes', or they are put to sleep.
Thousands of healthy dogs are put to sleep every year because there are too many dogs - but the general public doesn't see them and so therefore it never gets raised to government - that we do care.
The situation is just going to get worse - unless the general public are made aware of what is happening.
Until they introduce a penalty system for anybody who has a litter of pups without a licence, back yard breeding will only serve to encourage irresponsible pup production, and irresponsible ownership - leading to dog dumping.
If we could guarantee that the dogs found wandering the streets were all 'lost' and not 'strays', we'd be in with a chance of sorting this mess out
Treacle26 15-09-2006, 20:15 Police don't pick up stray dogs anymore but the RSPCA do say not to bring stray dogs to the shelters but to take them to the police station instead. Obviously they can't be aware that the police aren't keeping kennels.
I'll contact them!
Moss Way and West Bar still have facilities, but how are you supposed to get a dog all the way down there out of office hours, which is when the dog warden isn't available in these parts
krisskross 20-09-2006, 18:36 Hi All
Had a response from Woodseats Police today, if anybody would like to see the letter I will forward it on, not quite sure if I am allowed to post it here, 245 words in total.
Kriss
was it positive or negative Kriss?
krisskross 20-09-2006, 21:55 They did state where kennals were located :) only if you could take the dogs yourself :(
coppertop 21-09-2006, 20:46 Quite a lot of dogs are chipped now so if you take them to a vet they will scan them for a chip to see if an owner can be traced, if not most good vets will then tell you where the nearest dog rescue centre is.
