I am sure at some point, everybody has split up with or lost someone they truly loved, in some cases, a person they thought was 'the one'.
If this has happened to you, how long did it take before you felt you were ready to commit to someone new? Or do you think that some people you never really get over?

I don't think you ever really get over it.....more just learn to live with it.

This is something I am beginning to resign myself to...
Though I wonder, if you will always feel this way about someone from your past, how you can ever fully commit to anyone else? It all seems a bit hollow or shallow.

Just do what I'm doing - not actively looking but waiting for that possible thunderbolt to occur at any moment.
In case you're wondering it's been 6 months now since the break-up (after 5 happy years).
Just about feeling ready now for something to occur.

Surely everyone is different so there can't be a real answer to this question. I think you will just come to realise that the person that you were with wasn't really the one in the place. I am sure that someone else will come along and take you by suprise when you really aren't expecting it.

I agree with you on this one. I split up with my 1st love over 2 & half years ago, (3yrs in Dec) and i havent been in a relationship that lasts longer than 3months.
Not sure what it is, i jus dont seem to want to be with someone jus for the sake of it.
Im now completely over my ex and im yet to find love. But im a firm believer in whats meant to be, will be :)

It depends on each person but from personal experience your ready when your ready. You cant plan it or rush it and even though your heart once belonged to someone, there will be that little bit reserved for them forever but a big open space for someone new to fill.
