View Full Version : Starting up my car - advice needed
My old 1979 Lotus Esprit S2 has been garaged for over 2 years and its time to get the thing fired up again - so I can sell it! Can anyone recommend a garage / service that can come out and take a look - I was thinking of Autotronix on City Road ??
ridgeracer 05-09-2006, 08:31 If your car has been sat for two years make sure that you prime the oil system before allowing the car to start I would also check for leaking fuel pipes and sparks from loose connectors first. Put on a new battery and drain the fuel and put in some fresh petrol. If the oil has got contaminated with water thru storage give it a oil change first as well. If you get stuck pm me
_johnnyb_ 05-09-2006, 08:46 Turn the engine over by hand a few times too before attempting to start it.

I would'nt let that bloke and his scrawny son any where near your Lotus!
N grasons just off the bottom of Woodseats Rd are very good for your auto electricals not sure if they'd home visit though, but they are worth the enquiry. Last time I payed them a visit they put me a new bosch starter on my 205 in less than an hour (bit of a bugger on 205's) for £100 and no appointment.

You had a bad experience then?

Thanks for the help ridgeracer. Due to health reasons I need someone to come out and help as I'm not sure I'm able to carry out all the checks that you specify. Your checklist has been duly noted though!
never wrong 05-09-2006, 10:10 How many cars have you got

:)
Skatiechik 15-09-2006, 14:53 Hi Mario,
Did you get it sorted?
If its coming out of its garage for the first time some time this Sunday I wouldnt mind a squiz. I've never seen one in the flesh before! If its the 4 cyl turbo I would have thought the engine was fairly easy to work on. What are they like for parts and reliability?
Is Autotronix the Dealer or the Garage? (Or are they the same place?)
They seemed ok when I've used them a couple of times before. I have to admit deciding not to use them for my current car as I've seen quite a lot of young lads working there and didnt want to leave a car with above average power there all day.
Any thoughts on them as I'll likely use them in future?
Mutley00 15-09-2006, 19:07 Its the South Yorkshire branch Club Lotus BBQ on Sunday at the Devonshire Arms Pilsley (nr Chatsworth). I'm in all day tomorrow & have a couple of Lotus's myself. Give me a ring on 262 0087 & we'll try & sort it together then we can go to the BBQ!
If you've got a Lotus, steer clear of 'Local garages' unless you can trust they know and have experience of Lotus's. The only person I'd trust with mine is David Underwood on Fitzwilliam Steet just round the corner from Stokes Tiles.
Hi Mutley. Thanks for the kind offer. I was interested in Marios 79 specifically as I was wondering if it was litterally up my road :)
Perhaps one day after working enough Saturdays  I'll be dining at Chatsworth BBQ in my Lotus.
Mutley00 17-09-2006, 18:47 My reply was actually directed at Mario 78 - him being the one with the car I was offerring to help start.
Do I detect a sarcastic dig in your last scentence?
Lol no, just wistfulness. Angry man 'smiley' was because I was working Saturday.
