Titian 05-09-2006, 12:35 AM As far as I can remember terry nappies are a standard size. I used them with my two little darlings (not that long ago) and I bought some "Kooshie" nappy wraps then folded the terry nappies, a little like a sanitary towel shape, and placed them inside with a liner.
They lasted me for both my children. I just bought the nappy wraps (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KOOSHIES-NAPPY-COVERS-WATERPROOFS-LARGE-X-2_W0QQitemZ320022334874QQihZ011QQcategoryZ26267QQr dZ1QQcmdZViewItem)(plastic pants) in two sizes.
medusa 05-09-2006, 12:47 AM We used Bambino Mio nappies with niecelet (and everything's plenty good enough to also care for the botty of the new little one too). The velcro fastening nappy wraps were very convenient and did the job admirably, but you do have to be careful about getting the right shape of wrap to fit your baby, from a choice available.
They have 2 or 3 sizes of inner, which are multiple layers thick, and these seem to have got softer and more absorbent the more they've been washed.
You can buy a 'birth to potty' set but that works out quite expensive if you've already gone through the first 3 months. You can get individual items through a number of catalogues, and covers from places like the baby stuff shop on Shalesmoor though.
lisaH 05-09-2006, 01:20 PM My mainstay nappy is a nappy nippaed size 2 Totsbots with Motherease Air Flow/ Air Rika wraps as its an excellent combination for containment. The only reason I wouldnt use this combo is if you only have limited drying facilities. Ive used this combo for both my boys really successfully from about 3 months (possibly earlier as I tend to have biggish babies) and am using the same nappies for son 2 that I did for son 1 (although they are now looking a bit worn).
heartshaped1 08-09-2006, 10:13 AM I agree with LisaH - the Motherease airflow wraps are fantastic, dry really fast and catch even the largest deposits! I use Motherease and Green Baby nappies underneath. I have used Tots Bots in the past but found them more bulky and leaky than the Motherease.
As a general comment though, have found using reusables to be no real hassle and only one extra wash every other day, and have saved me a shedload of cash. However, I do tend to put him in disposables at night as I find he wakes up less. :)
I use the terry nappies my mum used for myself (and my brother and sister)!! Then I also bought some Luxury Ewe Terry nappies for night-time use as they seem to be more absorbant. I find that Terry nappies dry quicker than shaped nappies, although the folding does take a bit of practice.
Good luck!

You used to be able to get them in John Lewis.
roslynrosie 09-09-2006, 02:59 AM Hi i sell real nappies at www.tiddletots.co.uk at the moment there are just wham-bamboo, on my website but i can get modern baby, nature babies Babeco, Elliepants, and Baby Behinds, just pm me and i can get you a brochure sent out in the post or an email, i am a newish company and i also sell Organic baby clothes and skincare, I have used real nappies (sampled alot) from prefolds to the most modern of nappies, i am just pregnant with my forth child and there is nothing cuter than a cloth bottomed newborn, i am based in sheffield (walkley/Hilsborough)
I also have nappy nippas, blue, red, pink, purple, white and red. £1.50 each or £3.50 for 3.
roslynrosie 09-09-2006, 03:06 AM (Heavily pregnant and i cant sleep),
i started using when i 2 years ago when i got a set free from the council, but they were no use no containment, so i started out on my quest (as you do) to find the best nappy out there, in sheffield they are pretty hard to find so i went on the web, and have just started my own company two months ago,
PIF_Tails 21-09-2006, 02:28 PM I have tried a few real nappies recently....well my daughter has ;)
I have decided to use BumGenius One Size Pocket nappies (http://www.bumgenius.com/one-size.html) and I'm waiting for my Birth to Potty kit to arrive :)
I decided on this nappy as it is easy for non-cloth people to put on, like grandparents and nurseries.
It is easy to clean - shove in washing machine at 40 or 60 and line dry. The cover dries so fast, it is nearly dry when you get it out of the washing machine. The inside bit just takes a few hours on the line or less time inside or in the tumble drier.
I only need to buy one size/set of nappies, as these nappies adjust in size and so these nappies should last my daughter until she is ready to be toilet trained.
I hope I like them as much when I am using them fulltime :)
Oh, the only English site I have found with these nappies is this one (http://nappymania.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=165&osCsid=2b39f169e1db2aab6a181c0c81d8808e) and at the moment you can try and buy one nappy and if you hate it, you can get your money back.
Yellowrose 21-09-2006, 11:27 PM I have been using real nappies for six months now. I started with prefolds but found that when Freya started crawling that they bunched up a lot so I went for shaped nappies. I used little lambs for a while but they got a bit tight on the thigh, so I sold them and invested in Diddy Diapers, Nappy Nation No Folds, Bimbles, Clwt twts and other bamboo hemp nappies, Tots Bots and Minkis. I have mostly Nature Babies wraps and I find that they are the best. Motherease are good too, but not as nice as NBs.
Its difficult to say which are best all round. You cant really go wrong with Tots Bots though, I think they are excellent. Bimbles are good because they are fleece lined and the booster folds out for quick drying. Diddy Diapers are good because they are high cut at the thigh for chubbiness and look like they will fit for a long time, lots of adjustment. Nappy Nation no fold dries really quickly as all the layers fold out so its good for winter or if you have no tumble dryer. I dont really rate the hemp nappies except for Baby Beehinds which are expensive so I only have 1. Bamboo nappies are nice and silky soft but take ages to dry. Minkis are really good for night time and can be made to your requirements.
I am on two nappy forums: Nappynuts on yahoo groups and also babyworld nappy forum, where all types are debated and discussed. However, sites such as Twinkle on the Web and Kittykins contain some very useful information.
PM me if you want any more info!!
Yellowrose 21-09-2006, 11:34 PM P.S.
No one has mentioned this, but by far the best place to buy nappies is on ebay. You can buy new as well as used and several nappy traders sell on there. I wouldnt buy a birth to potty pack. Myself and all my friends agree that you tend to change your mind about what is the best type and fit as your baby grows. I bought my first lot on ebay, new but cheap, from someone who had bought a birth to potty pack and not used them all. When they were outgrown I sold them and got back what I paid for them and put it towards some more. I also bought some seconds of a top brand which are now no longer available, and when they were outgrown I put them on ebay and found I got more back than I paid for them!!!
Its also a good idea to buy a few different ones and see which you prefer personally.
Some of my friends love nippa fastening nappies, but I cant abide them as I once stuck one in my thumb! I actually prefer the velcro ones. Some swear by bamboo and hemp, but I prefer cotton terry. Its a personal thing sometimes.
babychickens 21-09-2006, 11:52 PM we've got bambino mio ones (birth to potty pack) and have found that babybabychickens has fat legs relative to her bum/waist, so have had to use disposable nappies from when she grew out of one size before the next size would fit. if you have a skinny baby they're fine.
Yellowrose 22-09-2006, 12:01 AM The prefolds I had were bambino mios. They were fine from 4-6 months and I was happy with the containment. But at 6 months not ony did the crawling issue mean they became displaced in the wrap, but she started doing "power wees"! and they couldnt cope with a sudden deluge sometimes. I know some people who have used bambino mios or other prefolds though the crawling toddler stage and found that using a nippa combined with the runny poo fold/newspaper fold/angel wing fold, kept them in place. This is the one where you fan out the back and bring the corners round to the front.
If you like prefolds (Bambinos or Cotton bottoms) The diaper hyena site is very useful. http://www.thediaperhyena.com/diaper_folding101.htm
They are very popular in the USA hence the "diaper" !
