Hello all, really want to get out and do something tomorrow night. Any recommendations? I'm open to all ideas. Something fairly beginner friendly and generally a nice atmosphere. Thanks!

He he just read the post again, Im confident that kickboxing at AFK fits the bill as being "beginner friendly" and having a nice atmosphere.
Must admit that our tuesday classes are quiet though, with most people opting for the monday and thursdays :)

Dont let that put you off though, the sundays are quiet too.

I can only imagine that quiet means more intensive tuition :P

where is wellington street? I have this feeling its the gym near the dev cat?

There are two gyms up the street from the Dev Cat. One is right on the corner , ours is the one next door to the one on the corner.

We are next door to a print works as well.

RE: Intensive tuition , well yes you could say that. One thing you can notice about even our beginners, we are a small club admittedly but everyone is taught properly we are not one of those clubs that just take your money and say "go on kick **** out of this bag" .

Also you are taught proper kickboxing by proper kickboxers not some mickey mousified karate/kung fu system that just uses the word kickboxing.

Hopefully see you there sometime.

Good choice :) I hope to be back training when my ankle sorts itself out, it's still a bit tender/swollen for tonight though.

Shorts and a tshirt would be perfect (just in case chefkicker doesn't see this before tonight!)

I think so chefkicker, I was debating whether to go to BJJ tonight but after wiggling my ankle for a while decided to leave it a few more days.

Hopefully the swelling should be down by Friday though!

Cool there are a lot of clubs in sheffield. I cant speak too much for all the clubs although there are a few that stand out.

Among them are Kapap , Brazilian Ju Jitsu, and of course my own club AFK.

I actively endorse Brazilian Ju jitsu with the Royce Gracie network as I have a lot of dealing with those guys.

Im sure there are a lot of clubs with a lot of good things about them. You choose a martial art for what you want to get out of it.

No point choosing kickboxing if you dont like a good hard workout with loads of sweating say :P
No point doing BJJ if you dont like being close up with other men either :P

No point doing Aikido or Tai CHi if you have no patience either and to quote a former student of mine (cant comment if this is really true as ive never done wing chun) : No point doing wing chun if you cant eat food with chopsticks :P

Horses for courses.

If you're thinking about aikido, the shef uni shodokan aikido club are at a dojo in the centre of town. they also have a town class as well.

google sheffield uni aikido club, and pick up thier site. there should be info on it and a link to the town club website

Sheffield Shoot with Pep the wrestler? I have seen him referee bouts at cage warriors.
Do Dave Brooksbank and Kayvon still train there?
I have judged Kayvon a couple of times (never needed judges as they didnt go the distance :P) .
Dave has trained quite a lot at AFK as well.

Hahahahahaha, quality! I wonder if Royce knows that the great KickboxingIdiot endorses him. Indeed, he is honoured.
