I have a particular liking for techno.
CaptainSleep 16-07-2004, 15:31 i think techno is one of the worst types of music ever created. Whilst being still massively better than any manufactured pop act, i can't see it lasting fourty years like truly great music does.

Is that Dave Clarke of the Dave Clarke Five? Bits & pieces / Glad All Over?
No, I thought not. Never heard of any of them. Sorry.

I've seen her advert in the back of The Star.
Chris. :)
carcrash 17-07-2004, 01:54 Red2 and I had the pleasure of booking Billy Nasty for a club night we were doing last year. I think we may have booked Phil Kieran as well.
Pity not many people turned up to those nights but I have some special memories.
Yep, I have soft spots for Dave Clarke, Justin Robertson, DJ Rush and particularly Green Velvet. Cajmere played one of the most fabulous sets I've ever witnessed at Voodoo in Liverpool about 6 years ago - robotic jackin' house rather than pure techno I guess, but frankly, it was all the better for that!
I used to be a total techno head but my tastes have mellowed somewhat over recent years, though I'd still travel far and wide to check for a Jeff Mills set.
And tracks like 'Flash', 'Strings Of Life' and 'The Bells' will certainly last 40 years in my house. Whether I will is a different matter entirely.
Incidentally, Sheffield played a fairly pivotal role in the development of techno, as the guys in Detroit were well influenced by the likes of Cabaret Voltaire and Human League. Yep, I'm proud to come from the city that helped bring about "one of the worst types of music ever created." ;)
yea i used to like the early techno stuff Frank De Wulf, anything on R@S, Warp - Nightmares on Wax etc or early european techno stuff/Belgium New Beat - late 80's i used to DJ with the likes of Brandon Block when he was good - was renowned for dropping in the likes of Kraftwerk
went to the first few insomniacs in sheffield later on - but hard house is different to techno anyhow
Used to live in Berlin were some great clubs there for techno (E-werk, Tresor and all things Sven Vath) liked the harder stuff too from holland - Gabba
The Astoria and Danny Dumplings :D the Shoom in London were my mecca but that wasn't essentially for techno heads
it's cack now - or i'll re-phrase that - that should have read 'i'm an old git now' :D
give me funky house any day!
Rubber_soul 17-07-2004, 13:35 Some of the finest Techno i've heard is from my unbalanced washing machine on spin cycle, intermittent flicking of the food processor switch also produces a kicking sound. It even makes me jump around and dance like a tw@t.
God's kitchen my ass.

OFFICIAL TECHNO IN-JOKE RESPONSE:
Nah mate. That isn't your washing machine. It's Larry Heard's.
:D :D :D :D :D :D
(Explanation here: http://www.geocities.com/scottpurkiss/music/larry_heard.html. No, it's not funny is it?)
Gabba Panda 14-04-2006, 11:09 was into my techno (Beyer, Sims, DK...) and used to run a night in liverpool called ultra-violent, however when my girlfriend moved to Frankfurt i discovered Schranz!
Schranz is probably the most banging form of techno! and is well worth checking out sets by Frank Kvitta, Rober Natus, Sven Wittekind and Marco Remus
I used to fly to frankfurt almost every weekend to go to U60 which is probably one of the best clubs in the world.....
However, despite this Schranz isnt hard enough for me anymore which is why I play speedcore / gabba and breakcore.
If you fancy hearing some Schranz & breakcore in Sheffield, check out Tinnitus @ the DNR live, 26th April

Admittedly though, breakcore is great.
