View Full Version : Thoughts on S Yorks Police interview
Please feel free to post your thoughts on the interview we conducted with the South Yorkshire Police force on June 19, 2003. If you haven't read it yet then click here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1399)
Phanerothyme 19-06-2003, 15:24 Less interesting than the hendersons relish interview. Seems we got a reprint of existing press releases. Any chance of finding out who was interviewed?
It says at the bottom of the interview, in italics.
Also you have to appreciate the nature of the interview. One policeman isn't going to risk his/her career in order to provide a shocking set of answers. I was expecting something like this, but at least it's better than nothing and speaks for the popularity of the forum now.
:)
Phanerothyme 19-06-2003, 16:02 heh, my mistake, Sgt Fox it is.
Out of interest, was this a face to face interview?
Well done on arranging the interview Geoff, I found it interesting.
Good to read that somthing's being done about the scramble bikes - it'll be interesting to see what effect the new policies have.
Really good interview Sgt. Adrian Fox went into enough detail so overall very interesting and informative

I agree. Hendersons is my favourite interview thus far.
I am more than satisfied with the answers to my questions. I got more in-depth answers than I had anticipated.
DaBouncer 20-06-2003, 08:28 What a cop out on my question (the weight thing)! I should have said I'm 6ft 3 and should have at least been tested on the fitness thing!
Very disappointed indeed!
My only concern was the fitness test thing. I am of the opinion that ALL Police Officers should be forced to take a annual fitness test. Some of the Officers I have seen are unfit which makes them detriment to their job description.
What happened to the question I put to the police, it has been totally ignored.

What question was that? Did they sit on the fence?
I'd like more information on how the interview was carried out.
Did you write up some questions on a sheet of paper and present it before hand, like 24 hours earlier or was the interview conducted on the spot?
Were any of the questions no comments?
As for questions that were missing, was it the result of the above or did you feel the quality of the question wasn't up to scratch or there was a limited time to fit them all in?

They answered all questions that we presented to them (not face to face). Halevan asked something on the lines of "Why with all your technology and equipment are you incompetent at catching criminals?"

Police Policy is a joke.
I have had one of my motorcycles stolen twice. The first time they left me to recover it from a gang of around 60 youths, on my own.
The second time, several local people told them of youths riding it at high speed on pavements, after dark, and after they'd ripped all the lights etc off. This bike was also used in a bag snatch.
I have reported exactly which youth has it and which house it is in FIVE times since it was stolen at Easter, and the response? Well, I'm still waiting.
Apparently they have 'more important things to do'. Sheffield Police are completely ineffective and allow teenagers to run rings around them and more importantly, make life hell for the law abiding public.
Thats why four teenagers were involved in a murder (Parmajit Singh-Baines) on Lowedges earlier this year and three are still free to terrorise people on the estate.
Thats why a 14 year old discharged three rounds from a Browning Hi-Power 9mm automatic in Lowedges Park and the Police never attended.
The Police attitude is one of 'everybody on council estates are as bad as each other'. They just half heartedly 'mop up' when there's another corpse.
Its about time that the Home Office accepted that the Police are corrupt to the core and if they cannot control crime then perhaps the Soldiers being made redundant after the latest punch up in Iraq should be fast-tracked into the Police, armed, and tasked with bringing order to the streets, fear to criminals and yobs and restore public faith in the governments ability to control crime.
While they're at it they should get rid of all the middle class 'criminal sympathetic' magistrates and replace them with people that have been victims of crime.
Phanerothyme 25-06-2003, 08:48 and your thoughts on the interview were?
micksheff 25-06-2003, 10:15 I can't find the interview the link just brings me back here
Phanerothyme 25-06-2003, 10:45 here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?threadid=1399) is the interview
Sorry about that, someone edited the link to the wrong one. I've now fixed it back to the correct one.
Why were all the questions relating to drugs policies pulled?
i posted many questions n suggestions, many related to drugs, a few about setting up a vigilante group, all were removed. it seems the police only want to ansswer questions they can which give them a good reputation. Y not set up a vigilante group n we can deal to make money :D
tom3t0 I don't think you can have posted those questions to the right area, because they were not on the list.
Mike, which question in particular are you referring to? Only very few questions didn't make it on to the final interview and the police had no influence over which questions I used.
Also, in the end of the day, the local interview service is something I spend a lot of time on and provide free of charge (much like the rest of this site). In my opinion the questions that were put forward were answered in a satisfactory manner, and I'm grateful for the police to agree to the interview.
If you have any further questions regarding specific questions then please email or PM me. This thread is meant to be used to discuss the answers given in the interview. Thanks.
Richard Ap Rhys 27-06-2003, 00:24 My thoughts on the interview is that it asked very comfortable questions, nothing really important that would have made the officer feel really uneasy, like why are there so many junkies and drug related deaths associated with Lowedges, why they sometimes don't respond to emergency calls at all, why so many of the commanding officers are freemasons, why five new age travellers sat together constitutes an 'illegal gathering', yet 40 or more teenagers congregated on shops does not.
The answers he gave were mostly trumpet blowing.

Hmmmmmm.
The New Age Travellers issue is a result of legislation passed by Parliament. The Police's job is to enforce the Law. If you want gatherings of 40 odd teenagers outlawed, lobby your MP. It's hardly the Police's fault is it?!
Implementation of the act is at Police discretion. They 'choose' not to apply it to gangs of teenage louts.
There is already sufficient legislation for Police to take action against louts, 'Breach of the Peace', 'Criminal Damage', 'Drunk and Disorderly' etc, the police just have an easier time of it if they turn a blind eye. Except when there is political motivation to act (eg: to clear the streets and protect society from the destabilising effect of a handful of 'possible/suspected' eco-warriors).
As for the other point, heroine deaths not being the Police's fault, well, it is certainly due to Police and Customs being ineffective in their so-called fight against hard drugs that the stuff is getting through in the first place.
'Zero tolerance' of loutish crime is what the public have been demanding for years. It doesn't inspire confidence when you see uniformed officers purchasing counterfit CDs from street traders.
Please keep this topic relevant to discussing the interview. If you want a new topic to discuss Sheffield's policing in general then let me know. I'm off to bed now... it's late ;)
