View Full Version : Aslans on west street/fitzwilliam street
ultracynic 15-07-2004, 18:06 this place is disgusting
the smell that wafts down fitzwilliam street is enough to make you gag.
and they do really shady things like taking rubbish out of their premises and putting it into PUBLIC waste bins so they don't have to dispose of it.
mind you, i once saw the door to their back yard open and it was already full of rubbish and rat heaven.
anyone who eats there deserves to get food poisoning
*Twinkle* 15-07-2004, 18:58 Erm, okay.... Mods?
wow, i Actually like it.
cheap n owt is good after a night out!!!!
:loopy: ok
Feel a law suit coming on.... or a straight jacket.
Aslans is excellent! It's the place to get a rat-burger after a night out drinking & clubbing.
The assistants are cheerful and helpful and you always get what you ask for - unlike other places I can think of.
The next time any of you are in there - ask Aslan if he still keeps his 13 inch cucumber behind the counter! I guarantee he'll understand and laugh. . . In case you're wondering, he once blurted it out whilst we were p****d and we've never let him forget it!
Top Place!
Disco_Cat 15-07-2004, 21:12 So all the other takeaways on West Street have realised that Aslans is an unbeatable takeaway and so are relying upon rubbish like this to try and dent their profits.
Ignore this joker!
Aslans is a prince among men when it comes to takeaways, i swear they put nectar or something in their Pizza bases, i can taste them now.
I can’t think of nicer restaurateurs or a nicer take away on West Street.
scatterheart 15-07-2004, 21:54 Well I must say that many a time throughout the day I have seen the guys who work there coming out of there and putting their rubbish into the street bin just down the road
And the smell that comes out of their kitchen vents onto Fitzwilliam Street does leave a lot to be desired. I try to either cross over the road or just hold my breath to walk past there :P
And I must admit to seeing rats scurrying round the back of those shops, although not limited to Aslan's ;)
But I have never eaten anything from there so I have no idea what their food is like
Can't be as bad as one I went to recently with my girlfriend. The food was OK but my girlfriend hated it there because of the "over friendly" male staff. I didn't notice it myself (oops) but we left early because she couldn't cope with their "smarmy" behaviour. She was really upset, saying things like "I was expecting to have my bum pinched", and "he was staring straight down my cleavage". Admittedly - so was I - But I’m allowed to!
These chaps were all young - bless. They'll probably get their turn one day - but not with my girlfriend!
Actually...
...on reflection...
I think its disgusting that we men don't get the same treatment from female members of staff. Proper sex discrimination that is...
I think I'll complain.
But I have to admit that I really hate restaurants that keep lobsters in tanks.
They always go for the sympathy vote. ****** lobsters always chatting up my girlfriend.
If they don't watch themselves I'll 'ave one of 'em...
...for dinner.
carcrash 17-07-2004, 00:50 Sorry about my original post.
ultracynic 17-07-2004, 09:28 ^ and thus contributing to the constantly overflowing public street bin on west street with food cartons and burgers etc lying on the floor
fair enough if the customers use those bins but for the shop staff to take half eaten food off their own premises and put it into the small public street bin so that everyone can enjoy the smell is just wrong
thanks to scatterheart for telling it like it is

I work round the back of aslans.
There is definitely a rat problem, as there is in most town-and-city centres.
just by my office, some dipstick keeps feeding the feral cats.
They are leaving food for the cats in some scrubland, not far from Aslans.
The problem is, the food rots, and attracts the rats and other vermin, as well as flies. It is vile! It is unsanitary, and, when the food put down for the cats has begun to rot, it stinks to high-heaven.
Thank god that the summer so far hasn't been too hot. God alone knows how rank this area would be if the weather was steaming-hot like it has been in previous years. UGH!
However, the problem is compounded, also, by the well meaning "plonkers" who feed the flying rats (pigeons) and allow the four-legged rats to feed on the debris. (despite the signs that are quite clear, all around the city centre explaining why pigeons should not be fed: the above reasons; the spread of disease and the fact that it attracts rats)
I also forgot to mention the disgusting, idle, drunken so-snd-sos who throw their takeaway debris on the floor rather than take two steps towards the bins and dispose of the rubbish properly.
I am pig-sick of arriving at work, and having to wade, in my chair, through a land-fill's worth of cr*p piled up in front of my office entrance, that gets stuck on my wheels and trodden into the office carpet

Plain Talker You must work not far from me then, I work at the Church Army College on the other side of West One. It is a woman that feeds the cats but she doesn't leave the food down permanently as I have seen her empty any left from the previous day into a bin bag (she also feeds them in the car park next to us) so I can only assume that if food is being left down there it is someone else that is doing it, probably someone who 'means well' but doesn't put any thought into their actions.

The woman who feeds the cats...is she in her forties, with long blond hair by any chance?
Plain Talker 17-07-2004, 16:48 the thing is, whoever this person is, they are leaving the food down, presumably overnight, when they come to do the feeding each day, and possibly for the weekend, if they do not come into town on a weekend.
the food left, attracts rats. The more rats eat, the more they breed (just like pigeons) the more they breed, the more overrun we get. It's a vicious circle. Even if this person has cleared things away the next day, the rats will have eaten their fill of the food left.
Wild rats, unlike pet rats, carry all manner of diseases. they are insanitary, they pee as they walk along, spreading Lyme disease and such like.
It only needs an hour maybe less, for the dirty, germ-ridden flies to start congregating round the food. Our office is right by the feeding area. Then, we get overrun by them in our office. it's unhygenic. It's unpleasant. A lot of our staff, and all of our customers are disabled, they do not need to run the risk of diseases when they come to use our service.
and wendy,, no, you are right... I only work a couple of streets away from the college.
deano:- I am afraid I haven't seen the person feeding the rats and the cats, so I cannot say what he or she looks like.

Hey plain talker, invest in an air rifle and see how many rats ya can shoot from your office.
Just a thought!
Thanks
Tony
carcrash 18-07-2004, 23:18 The woman who feeds the cats is trying to reduce the amount of feral cats in the area and doing a bloody good job at it. What she does is feed them and get to know them and build up the trust. After the trust is built she takes them to the cat shelter where they are sterilized and sanitised given to people who want cats.
10 years ago I used to have an art space on Trafalger St when it wasn't a trendy part of town. The place was over run with feral cats who I used to play games with. When I say hundreds I mean hundreds.
This lady on her own and with no support from anybody as far as I'm aware of has kept the numbers under control for many years and helped people like me who have lost cats get new ones from the cat shelter.
There are hundreds of people who have cats in Sheffield that they have got from the cat shelter who don't know where the cats have come from. A fair few have come from this woman and the work that she has done.
Now flying rats are a different matter all together.
