Anyone know why the police have blocked off the road into the town centre from the roundabout at the bottom of Ecclesall Road? Traffic's shocking this dinner time.

Traffic's shocking this dinner time. Could be a VIP or a Judge etc. How long was it blocked for. Wavey 15-07-2004, 13:10 Don't know, a panda car screeched around the island and straight accross the road with its blue lights on. The Traffic backed up immediately so I took a big detour. Wondered if there'd been a smash or something. owdlad 15-07-2004, 13:20 They used to block off every junction when judges came from their overnight stopping places to the crown court....well we don't want em falling asleep before they get to court do we! or even worse having to mix with the great unwashed....god forbid that they should ever have to meet up with a normal person. owdlad. Internetowl 15-07-2004, 13:39 Another mugging at bottom of moor. al_partridge 15-07-2004, 14:41 Nothing like that - it was because a window-cleaning platform / gondola thing (sorry, can't think what you call them!) came loose and was dangling from the roof at the top of Milton House, where I work, on Charter Row. This side of the road was completely blocked off by 3 fire-engines, an ambulance and police whilst they got them down using the big extendable ladder thingy. It took quite a while with the buildling being so high, and there's still a fire-engine here now, almost 3 hours later, trying to get the basket down. Looks like nobody got hurt, but one can only imagine how they must have felt in that split second when the basket started to fall! That was about 12.50... Unfortunately it was a pointless journey, as I discovered my lessons had been cancelled at school, and as I went past the scene again at around 13.45, I could still see something dangling in the air and all the fire brigade... Lickszz 15-07-2004, 16:14 How long did it take to get them down then, because one side of charter row was still blocked off at 4.35pm. al_partridge 15-07-2004, 16:49 Originally posted by Lickszz How long did it take to get them down then, becauuse one side of charter row was still blocked off at 4.35pm. The window-cleaners were brought down safely at about 1:20, but the actual metal platform thing is still up there, and that's the danger. Apparently it's only a small piece of metal preventing it from crashing to the ground, hence that side of the road still being closed. I'd have thought it would have been sorted by now, it's 5 hours ago, but they're still up there messing with it! Andy C 15-07-2004, 18:36 At 6:10pm when I went past on the bus, the area was still taped off and guarded by a lone police car. Greybeard 15-07-2004, 21:34 I just saw this on the news. "Two men were examined by medics but they refused hospital treatment" Probably had to dash off home for a change of underwear etc. :D Greeneyes 16-07-2004, 06:37 I was driving to work this morning and had to take a de-tour as the road is still closed this morning (according to the news) owdlad 16-07-2004, 06:53 I saw the pictures of it on last nights news, I bet those two guys haven't had a very comfortable night, every time they close their eyes I bet they feel that cradle lurch......I wonder if theyre going back this morning to finish off, it will look be awful for those who work there to look through half cleaned windows. owdlad. uncleheed 16-07-2004, 07:39 I reckon the two blokes ringpieces were like rabbits noses!!!
