View Full Version : Has anyone spotted some good gardening bargains?
Tracie 03-09-2006, 12:35 PM I thought it would be good to get a thread going with all the best special offers at local gardening centres, gardening websites etc. :D
Over the summer Morrisons started to sell off their old flower buckets at 8 for 99p. Once you have drilled a few holes in the bottom, these are fab for growing a variety of plants - we grew cucumber plants in them over the summer! I popped into Morrisons yesterday and now they are selling the same buckets at 20 for 99p. Bargain!
Lidls has got cheap gardening stuff on offer at the mo - the composter looks quite good value.
Also Wyevale's garden centre are selling off their seeds for .25p a packet if anyone works / travels near to their locations (I went to the one in Halifax). Got over 50 packets of seed for £14 - real value over £120 (Bella Cucumber normally £3.99 on sale for .25p)
neeeeeeeeeek 05-09-2006, 11:46 PM 99p shop near big Argos in town has lots of cheap gardening stuff.
Strix 06-09-2006, 12:33 AM I've just bought 75 citronella tea lights for 98p at woollies (ex-bigW), but I think we got the last ones.
There's loads of other stuff they're trying to get shut of - like kettle barbecues for a fiver
dukeries garden centre near worksop has some gorgeous stuff in there i could spend a fortune there they have a sale on at the minute

try laurel instead :)
The big problem with the conifers is that they won't regrow if they are damaged (eg, by wind) but things like laurel, hawthorn (easily grown from cuttings) and pyracanthus do - and they don't harbour the nasties that damage our crops and lead to the necessity for hideous amounts of pesticides ;)

i tried blackthorn & hawthorn last year but the sodding horses eat it. laurel is on the list of shrubs not to plant with horses.
just put in a pyracanthus and a couple of buddliea, but i still need some fast vigorous growth
apparently wilkinsons are selling their garden arches for half price - £1.50
Don_Kiddick 20-09-2006, 10:23 PM WILKINSONS:

Im a Wilko fan, and have had many bargains from there.Where will you site your mini- greenhouse ? Is it partly polythene ? Sometimes they blow away,if not anchored properly. But sounds interesting.

I'll second that :) When we first had ours it was on a concrete slab about half way down the garden, it kept getting blown over and blown over so it is against the house wall now and also has a bag of compost in the bottom for further stability

What kind of things are you going to grow in it Tess ?
willman 05-10-2006, 09:42 PM spray nozzles for hose pipe 50p with 75% off @ wilkos.
Tracie 06-10-2006, 02:43 PM Threads merged
Wilkos seem to be doing pretty well on the gardening bargains front!
Yellowrose 19-10-2006, 11:55 PM Netto has fruit and ornamental trees for £3.99. I bought a cherry, 3 apples a crab apple and a rowan. They are of a decent size for the price. I wish I had more space as I would have bought more.
They also have some quite small shrubs for £1.69: I got a Skimmia Rubella, a couple of box trees, a dwarf conifer and two heathers. More suitable for tubs than open garden because of their small size.
Yellowrose 21-10-2006, 12:15 AM Which Wilko has the mini greenhouse? Do they have any left? Sadly none left in Hillsborough today, but they have quite a few half price things like weed and feed, fertiliser, weedkiller etc so I stocked up.
