Over the moon for his title win last night.
I watched it in town so the sound was drowned out by the music. It looked like he had lost, was it a fair result.

I think it was. He looked like he'd lost it in the 9th but came back to take the last 3 rounds. Recovered from a right battering in the 9th, he sure can take a punch :)

What a great fight, it was the best boxing match I have seen in years.
Clinton Woods displayed immense bravery to stun Glen Johnson and retain his IBF light heavyweight title after a split decision in Bolton. What got me was Johnson said at the end of the fight , that Woods only won a couple of rounds what a joke. Johnson threw some great combinations but it was in the last 30 seconds of every round except for the 9th where he battered Woods.Johnson continued to walk in with his head down and left shoulder pushing into Woods, but Woods showed some Sheffield Steel and won through in the end.Well done Clinton great fight bring on Calzagi.

Yep very well done Clinton, coming back from that torrid 9th round to grab victory was indeed a great performance. But will he now get the recognition? I somehow doubt it considering the way he was portrayed on ITV.

I know this was a Frank Warren promotion but he did everything to get Calzaghe in there and clearly wanted Johnson to win making Woods out at the start to be a miserable Yorkshireman hole up in his Gym, while Johnson was a cool friendly guy happy to have a chat with people. Just a load of Warren propaganda. Nice to see Hobson bring Hatton in with him though to rub it in a bit on Warren :hihi:.

I really hope Clinton gets Calzaghe now and knocks that smug look off his face and finally prove once and for all (to everyone else) that he's the Worlds No. 1 Light Heavyweight and get that recognition.

CLINTON WOODS I.B.F. World Champion :D

Oh and now for Johnny Nelson to beat Calzaghe's stablemate Enzo Maccarinelli on 14th October

After the 9th, it was only going one way. Johnson looked deflated by the fact after that he threw everything he had at him but Woods just wouldnt quit. Showed true character and dug deep for that victory.

Well done Clinton you have done your city proud.

I think your question has been answered by the fact that the thread contains six responses thus far. Sheffield has a true warrior of a boxing world champion, a down-to-earth star who does his talking in the ring, and folk would rather chat about flashy, over-rated and over-paid numpties like Ashley Cole.

I hope and believe he will defeat the monumentally overhyped Calzaghe.

Well done Clinton. A well deserved win, from a hard fought fight.

I felt really quite proud of 'our' Sheffield lad, when the announcer shouted "Still the light heavyweight champ".

Well chuffed!

Id love to think he would beat Calzaghe - but if im honest, I doubt he has the workrate or punching power to worry the welshman.

Great display of Yorkshire grit on Saturday night though - I think Clinton did Sheffield, and more importantly himself, proud with that performance.

I had Clinton winning by two rounds, but some of the rounds were close.

Calzaghe is incrediby fast and skilfull at his best. But going up a division should not be underestimated. Ricky Hatton's last fight showed how an extra half stone can make a lot of difference power-wise. And Calzaghe seems determined that he will not fight at light-heavy until he gets a straight title shot, thus giving him less time to grow into the weight.

Should be a tremendous fight if it comes off. But I would have to make Calzaghe favourite.

Great fight and a great result. Clintons manager offered calzaghe £1.5 million for the fight on radio 5 yesterday.
Amir Khan looked pretty good as well

It was an excellent fight , full of grit and determination from both fighters. The thing that impressed me most about Clintons victory was how he kept battling when it looked lost in the 9th. The lad has such courage and will power that he fully deserved his victory over a tough fighter like Johnson.

Amir Khan needs to stop fighting nobodies, these opponents are a waste of time.

Khan needs to start fighting the better boxers in his weight, not these balloons who just turn up for show.

Until then I seriously couldn't comment on how he is as a fighter.

Woods V Calazaghe, would have to say the Welshman, but hopefully the Sheffielder will do it, if this ever gets sorted.

Watched fight through a bit of a haze after watching the England game at the pub thought he just did enough.

Well done from a Blade to an Owl
