I'm setting up my own home - run business selling handmade cards whilst I'm at home with my two little uns. Anyone have any tips on how to get a stall at a local fayre or know of any shops that may sell them? They are lovely cards and I'm hoping to sell them at a much more reasonable price than most handmade cards (£1 each approx.)

I know that 'Rather Nice Cards and Candles' in Millhouses stock handmade cards by local people. Probably worth popping in and having a chat with them.

If you can scan me in some images of the types of cards you make, i might be interested in stocking them on my website.
:) PM me if you're interested. :D

Hi me & a friend do cards for local football teams,we have just been given a big order from a 2nd division football club, try all different designs on your cards, the sport cards are very popular our cards sell for £4.50 each.at the top of the range & £2.50 at the lowest price.ask any market stall holders if they would try selling your product & see how it goes.

Why don't you try to get a stall at the Sheffield Fayre? Also they occasionally have craft-type markets in the city centre - maybe you could get a stall there?

Make a few dozen different types then go to local newsagents and offer them as sale or return.

You really have to do it properly though - get the proper sellophane wrapping for the cards and you'll sell them much better.

Thanks for all your advice folks - this forum always confirms what a great place Sheffield is to live! Will try out all suggestions and fingers crossed (I'm really not a salesperson though so toes and everything else may have to be crossed too!)

I am an ex- market trader and if that is the route you are interested in pursuing then I would suggest you get on the Market Traders website
They have a good database of ALL markets, cost and contact details. They are only based in Barnsley and are extremely helpful, they can give you lists of stall makers, sheet suppliers . . . everything you need really.NMTF (http://www.nmtf.co.uk/)

Before the cynics start up - I have no association with the NMTF but have found them to be invaluable over a number of years.
