View Full Version : African hunt for stolen Boeing
The United States says it is working with African governments to try to find a stolen passenger jet that it fears may end up being used by terrorists.

This story doesn't seem to be getting much attention, but it sounds fairly worrying to me. Wonder why they haven't found it yet, surely it must still be in the region or another country would have picked it up on radar.
alchresearch 19-06-2003, 16:04 Truly shocking. Africa is such a large and remote country, it could have landed or crashed anywhere.
Security is hardly much tighter elsewhere in the world. Netherthorpe Aerodrome doesn't even have a fence around it.
I know the planes are only light aircraft, but they could still be landed in a field and loaded with a chemical weapon.

Not just an aircraft, but people too.
Try flying a jumbo into Oxford St Tube Station. Much easier to infect yourself and go in sneezing for allah.
There's no way to prevent a determined terrorist biochem attack, other than to undermine the reasons for doing so, or to throw most civil liberties out the window and return to wartime security measures (summary execution, imprisonment without trial, trial in camera, military tribunals and unlimited stop and search powers for all LEOs).
I'd rather risk a terrorist attack than live under those conditions. I'm glad I don't live in London, now that the powers that be have greatly amplified the risk of an attack by stirring up hatred worldwide against us and the USA.
Would it be such a bad thing to bring back emergency powers as we had during the last war? something needs to be done to thwart the terrorists!
And it didn't need the coalition forces attacking Iraq to stir up hatred against the west, it was already there.
Remember the twin towers?

Any signs yet?

Well spotted Jim. :hihi:

This is just a bit daft. If anyone really wanted to use a light aircraft for such means then whether there is a fence or not would make no difference whatsoever. If they can fly the plane then they can just turn up somewhere (with or without a fence) and hire one. This type of scaremongering is a silly for a number of reasons not least of which is that a huge truck can be driven into a city centre far more easily.
Dosen't that black box thingy tell therm where is is??

Sadly they would have to find the black box and that would be in the plane still...
Doesn't the black box emit a signal so that it can be found. Maybe it needs to be triggered in some way?

Spare a thought for the Flight Engineer Ben Padilla, who was onboard, and has not been heard from since.
Interestingly, the aircraft was sighted in 2004, by one contact, in The Lebanon.
But like Lord Lucan, this and other sightings have not been substantiated.

Sorry to be a pedant, but Africa is a continent, not a country.
