Oh- sorry to hear that minesadouble. Just when put your head over the parapet to think that the world's not that bad something like this comes along to knock you back down again.

Don't let a couple of gits get you down. Call the AA or whoever you're with and hope they'll be able to help you secure the car, then have a beer and a good swear at them.

A few years ago, I got home from work to find my garage door closed. I always left it open as there was nothing in there, anyway, I pulled up in front of it, got out of my car, wondering if kids had been playing inside. When I opened the door, a car was parked inside.............. To cut a long story short, a couple of local wasters had just bought a car from the auctions, seen my garage empty, and thought they could park in there ! The Police informed them otherwise..........

I personally think that in those circumstances it would have been better to have not challenged them at all (and potentially let them get away with your car) but guaranteed your (yours AND your children's) safety and stayed inside and called the police from there.

I know that sounds like a totally wimpy thing to do, but the car's a piece of machinery that wouldn't ever replace you for your little ones if those gits had hurt you.

What car was it? if its a modern car with a transponder key immobiliser they wouldn't have been able to start it anyway without the key. Still no excuse to dick your steering column and wiring up.

(Message to car thief scum :loopy: ) Modern immobilisers enjoy LOL :hihi:

It was a corsa - Not the best of cars I know but - It's my life nipping the kids here and there -I workhard to I pay my Insurance , Tax , MOT's, Services , know the car inside out - and they'v potentially ruined it for me
If insurance repair - That's ok
If they pay me out - I'll get bugger all 'P' plate
I'll not be able to get a reliable car with the mileage and history that mines got .... I could go on - Just still upset ....
I always secure it gr8 at night - but this was T time - It was locked but no lock on steering :(
Do they buy there brass neck and sheer cheek in bags ????

Get some local quotes for repair without going through the insurance, that way the insurance company dont get the option to write it off and give you naff all for it. If the repair is too high then insurance is the only option.

I did a similar repair for an old neighbour a few years ago and it didnt cost that much in parts.

Although nowadays I do not have time to carry out extra work, if you want me to come and have a look and advise you I will be happy to do so.

My point being that in that circumstance, how do you know what weapons they're carrying, and whether they're likely to use them on the people who challenge them? After that it would be a bit late to try to call the police.

Thanks Dardandec ,
I will do
However, bit of a messy job they'v bashed the passenger door against the wall of the house and scratched all the drivers door and totally buggered the door lock. this is excluding all the ignition damage and actually taking the steering column cover with them :loopy: - looks like they'v had a go at the stereo too- it's all bent (only vauxhall standard) NUMPTYS.:loopy:

But I will definately bear you in mind
Many thanks x

If I didn't lose control and immediately confront them, I'd not let them know that I'd seen them and ring 999 and tell them that two blokes, in masks, with big knives were in the process of trying to steal my car.

In the dark, screwdrivers might look like knives, and shadows can give the impression of masks.

Hell, I might even say that they were carrying what looks like a handgun.

That should get rapid response AND probably a good 'rough handling' from the police.

If they performed as normal, they would switch on the sirens when a mile from your house in order to give them time to get away.

When a neighbour saw someone trying the windows at my house, then the sound of breaking glass from round the back of the house (the neighbour lived accross the road), he called the police straight away.
I arrived home about five hours later and called the police myself. They turned up about half an hour later. What a coincidence that they stopped being busy when I was at home, but no burglar was still there.
I only found out the neighbour had phoned them about six months later. I guess the police forgot to mention that to me when they came round.

Well I would have been still hitting them with my pick axe handle as the police arrived and inform the police they fell on it while trying to escape.

I woke up one night and heard something strange. I got up to look out of the window and saw 2 yoofs breaking into a car over the road. I threw open the bedroom window and yelled 'what the f*** do you think you're doing', they looked up and then legged it off. My other half went after them (don't know what he planned to do if he actually caught them).

Anyway he went over and told our neighbour what had happened, and the fact that we had stopped them before they managed to get away with anything (the car was full of his work tools!!). We didn't get even a word of thanks!! Maybe I won't bother in future!!

I would have sprayed them in the face with a noxious substance and then insisted that one of us was going to Hospital for treatment.

The treatment required would, more than likely, be to sort out the injuries caused to them by the pick handle, or baseball bat, that I took off them during the struggle.  :hihi:

How can you be sure it was actually your car? Maybe, and it's a long shot, but maybe you were in the wrong house? I disturbed a couple in a hotel room only last week believeing it to be my room, it wasn't, and I was the one that looked silly, plus I'm sure their room had a mini bar which mine didn't, annoyed me that did.

Anyway so all I'm saying is, don't believe everything you read in the papers, Liverpudlians are not all car thiefs and going home to the wrong house is not out of the ordinary.

Simple.

similar situation for me. my neighbours works van was been broken into while parked infront of my house. As I looked out the window I phoned the police and gave them a running commentary of what these 2 scumbags were upto. I then went round and knocked on my neighbours door to try to wake him up when i got confronted by scumbag number one with a screwdriver in his hand. That was not nice!!! Luckily the police arrived bang on queue and arrested the little barsteward! you know my neighbour never even said thanks. he was more cheesed off that I'd woken him up at 4am as he had to leave for work at 7. glad he's moved house now anyway:rolleyes:

If you pick up a weapon on the way out to confront someone stealing your car, you've probably just committed an offence.

Which IMO is pretty stupid, but sometimes the law is an ass.

As for not advocating violence... You can legally use reasonable force to protect your property. So some level of violence may be called for.

Minesadouble....
I sympathise....Looks like Corsa's are "in" to have a go at.
My recent posting...

"Help from Forum members, please...Attempted Car Theft"
Home > Sheffield > General Sheffield Chat

Perhaps even the same pair, who knows?
Needless to say, we heard nothing more from Plod, apart from the usual follow-up letter.
Interestingly, it lists the offence as "Damage to Vehicle (Not Racial/Religious)(Criminal Damage To A Vehicle).....
Assume it would carry a different penalty (if ever caught) to Racial/Religious Criminal Damage......
I'll let others comment further on THAT one!!

Ring the police, they should arrive promptly if the crime is still happening. Then get ready with the baseball bat.

If I catch someone stealing my car then I will make sure they won't be able to use their hands or feet to do the same again.
