There's one near Crosspool. I knew someone who served in the bar there a few years ago, and she told me the members were all quite scary and strange!

Food and wine, my friend, food and wine. ;)

Good man Jesus, you could always count on him to whip up some fish and wine when you ran out.

It's on Dore Road actually, at the very bottom on the left as you go up. I know a senior member of staff from the one at Crosspool and he says the members are all pretty normal individuals as far as he can tell. :surprised

On the other hand, the father of someone who married into my family is a Mason (probably got in because he is a fairly senior civil servant in the area) and the bloke is an utter & complete a******e in every respect.

They are a secret organisation that does each other favours.
If ever a mason for instance is introuble with the Law, he will be let off, as all the top coppers and JP's etc are on the square.
It was originally a trade organisation to keep the skill of stone masonry secret.

Thanks for that Artisan. I have often heard people talking about the masons, but never really understood. Do they do a funny handshake or something?

No one knows for sure, unless they are a mason. But they do have a way of greeting each other so they know what company the are in.

I was led to believe that it was the old medical collage to do with leopold street. As this is what i read from the old history books of sheffield and we did it in school. I still have the books about this and will try and find the page, get it printed out and post it.

There is a Free Mason Hall up at Broomhall, it is the Masonic Hall up at Tapton hall just up Manchester road and the house was owned by
THE FLORANCE NIGHTINGALE FAMILY.

Being a member of the Freemasons is no different to being a member of a Golf Club.

I know a member and he's a really nice chap (no horns on his head and no devil worshipping etc).

Nonsense !
Boy you are consistent at talking utter rubbish (across most threads)

As usual, I'm sure you'll back up your assertions with this little things called "evidence" !
