jediwarrior 31-08-2006, 14:20 is there any ferret owners in the room? I would like some advice on how to hand train them. I have 1 boy and 1 female both are very nice but they hate bein held they would rather play. we would like to sit with them every now and then but they just start tryin to play.
jediwarrior 01-09-2006, 22:00 cant beleve no one has ferrets here there so playfull and cute
hi jedi . let them play until tired, then you can pet them. they have a mad half hour where they nip you constantly especially on your stocking feet when they do the open mouth ferret dance.also much calmer after beeing fed. good luck
jediwarrior 04-09-2006, 21:53 hi our ferrets do the ferret dance for wot seems like hours may be cos there young but ur right it is very entertaning indeed. Just wish they would sit wi us they do come out of there cage alot. And they do eat alot get fed twice a day
terminator 08-11-2006, 00:15 i think you will find plenty actually that own ferrets ive only one now had to have one put to sleep last year at 11 yr old with insolinoma but this one is great i found it or should i say it found me while i was walking my other one round the garden think she was only about 4 week old at that time lucky really as the next day we had very bad snow

terminator 04-03-2007, 10:40 thats like my male ferret pal. Hey we bin asked to show him this year by the british ferret org shows
never been to ferret shows id give it a try used to show canaries finches ect meet some good ppl and get good advice ect.
I have a ferret . Hes called Beckham. He was a stray. Didn't know anything about ferrets before, but i JUST ADORE HIM.
Hes only ever once slept on my lap and that was after a nice walk in Graves park, he slept on my lap in the car on the way home.
He is about 1 ish and spends all his time snoozing or doing the ferret dance.
I am going to look at getting him a pal sometime this spring.
dnbraver1 04-03-2007, 17:15 hi to tame ferrets it involves patience and bribes with food .also to calm them down lick the back of your hand and let the ferret lick it something in the saliva calms them down very quickly. i would recommend having the hob (male ) castrated so as the Jill's come into season he can have his wicked way and knock the Jill's out of season. a Jill that is not mated when in season can suffer hair loss and stress due to the over dose of estrogen this in very rare cases can lead to death of the Jill. i recommend James well-beloved dry ferret food as its a well balanced food for ferrets IE it protein requirements for ferrets. it also cuts down on the smell other than that enjoy your ferrets
jediwarrior 05-03-2007, 19:14 if i need help i look on the british ferret club web site there is loads of info on there an people always willing to help. i got jack first and then got jill and he was happy as larry having a little friend to keep him company he loves her

not too sure about that i know she had a partner but couldnt tell ya his name or what his role was .
she did apear on calander news and was registed under the pdsa she also use to work in the pet shop at meadowhall "no longer there now "
i know she stopped the rescue at one point due to not having enough time on her hands but dont think it worked out that way because there was always ferrets left waiting on her garden when she came home from work :hihi:
it could have been called yorkshire ferret rescue but not 100% sure on that i did have her card but cant find it anywere.

jediwarrior 10-03-2007, 15:34 where can i buy ferritone for my ferrets as i use it to trim there claws
melody on 10-03-2007, 15:59 I remember mary from Meadowhall. We have ferrets and she used to say we smelt loveely when we went in her shop becuase she was addicted to the smell of ferrets.
She was also judge at Penistone show ferret section when we went once . We took our just-rescued scratty ferret Pandora along and were persuaded to enter her by Mary and she won runner up prize ferret of the show.(Pandora not mary)
About training- the thing about food is right. We did ours with Ferretone which they are all addicted to. You smear it on your hand and they lick it while you pet them.
Unfortunately it seems to have been withdrawn from the market. Anyone know where to get any?
We had three ferrets , Pandora died a couple of years ago and Worf sadly died last week, (quite old) . We now just have albino Molly with bags of energy and no company. I really don't want another though.
About neutering. In the end we had all ours neutered. It calmed them all down a bit and you can stop worrying about the coming in to season thing. I know plenty of people who just castrate the male ferret though. It is fine uinless you are just left with females and then you need to find a castrated male every time they come into season or they get sick.
Good luck.

jediwarrior 11-03-2007, 13:57 im hopefully showin my 2 ferrets this year showin jack and prob race jill as she is like a bullit jack is to lazy to do the runnin about when out on his lead if anyone would like to meet with there ferrets it would be nice and let ferrets play with each other and share stories. if anyone wonts ferrets this year there is a pet shop in chesterfield that sells them when they start breedin and they will help with any question its called pet wise thats where we got ours
