I'ts been plaguing my wife for a long time, every morning after a damp warmish night, cries of anguish coming from the garden... she's tried everything - slug pellets (environmentally friendly) sharp sand, crushed eggshells, vaseline smeared around the plantpot rim, copper strips (supposed to react to slug slime and give them am electrical charge) culling, the list goes on... I suppose someone is going to mention they like to drown in beer (works a bit) not perfect.
Any suggestions? daft ones welcome also:D

This really works well and safe, sink a small soup can in the ground near the plants that are being eaten, just so the top of the can is at dirt level and put about an inch of beer in the can. Yes, beer! It work like you wouldn't believe.
The slugs and snails love the beer fall in and drown.
The best way is get a plastic bottle, cut the top off right where the sides start flat and invert the top in the bottle and staple and tape it, put beer in there and lay it on it side. the smell of beer attracts them, they go in but they cant get out, bit like a lobster trap. This second way uses less beer as it doesn't let water in.
The can way works well but if it rains you have to change the beer.
Trust me I'm not being funny, it works
and one great side benefit of that is ...
if you're out in the garden and fancy a little tipple ... you have 'slug beer' on tap !
