which are between Bolehill rec. and Moorsyde Avenue in Walkley/Crookes.

We (my wife and I) have recently been added to the waiting list but have not yet had a chance to visit.

Didn't even know about these and had already looked at Rivelin, Hagg house and Morley St. allotments to get 'feel' for those near us.

Strangely, there is little mention of Bolehill Quarry allotments anywahere I can find on the 'net.

So really, this is just the start of a thread asking for any info., tips, etc. that you may have.

Over to you.....

I was wondering whether they were Crookes Quarry Allotments, but they're not at all. Did you ask how long the waiting list is? It's worth asking this - we wanted somewhere in Crookes as well, but were told that the Crookes Quarry/Crookes Marsh ones were a 4 year wait!

We recently took one on Hagg Lane. Don't confuse these with Hagg Hill though. Hagg Lane allotments form part of the ones that start on Stephen Hill Road in Crosspool, making altogether almost 300 plots; it's easily visible on maps.google.com. We looked at the same sites you did, but decided to go for somewhere more 'populated' with allotmenteers, as the last thing I wanted was to feel unsafe up there on my own. The waiting list for Hagg Lane was only 6 months as well. If you're keen, let the office know - I have a feeling they will be doing an end of season purge and so the waiting list will reduce. Apart from that, nagging them seems to work well!

We've had our place for 3 weeks now, and some tips and pics are covered in this old thread: http://sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=137489
The website will be updated again soon after a mammoth amount of work was done over the bank holiday weekend!
Hope this helps and best of luck!

We're 7th on the waiting list (were 10th less than a week ago) but no idea how long the wait is (we did ask).

We're also well aware of the Hagg allotments, and which is which. Hagg Hill (AKA Hagg House) have availablilty but there's not much life there apart from overgrown plants (in the main). Feeling safe is also a factor (Bolehill Quarry back on to estate gardens - there's only about 9 lots apparantly).

May consider switching to Hagg Lane, though, especially if there is an end of season 'sale' :) It's a bit futher for us but, as you say, looks like a busy allottment.

Hullo. I've just got my allotment patch here. Anyone else?

It looks like the council have just had a sort through as there's a few that look like people have just started clearing as well as a couple that have been in use for a while.

Been a bit of a ghost town when I've popped up there over the last couple of days. Would like to say hello to anyone else around.

Are these the ones up by the cemetary in crookes?

I'm not too sure if it's near a cemetary.

It's next to the playground on top of Bole Hill near Moorsyde Avenue.

This shows where the allotments on the Bolehills are, basically they along the back of the houses on Moorsyde Ave.
If you zoom in on the map, you can clearly count about 15 plots in total.

Yeah, there are 15 plots in total.

Most of them aren't being worked on either!

Hello,

I walk my dogs past these most days. There are only 2 being worked on!!!!! My father in law used to have one but got fed up of kids smashing greenhouse and throwing things over. Why is there a waiting list when only 2 are in in use? How much do they charge for them?

I agree laurenkirk95. I've just got my plot here and it's such a shame to know I'm quite alone up there! I've been on the waiting list some time, but can't see why! The plot I'm next to, the lock and chain are rusty on the gate, the hedge and their weeds are growing into mine. It's going to be a nightmare to contain them from that side I think!

It's around £27 I think, I think there's a water supply on there once I've got through all the bramble to investigate!

Did you ask why Retro riot you have had a to wait as only 3 out of 15 are in use?

Talk about a late reply! No I never asked. What matters is that I got one! It's awful that so many plots are going to waste!
