Is it just me or does sheffield sem to be office central. And now that there's these new offices being built at the botom of the moor near safeways well I just think we are being bombarded with office jobs, no wonder plumbers can charge high rates.

There is actually a severe lack of office space in sheffield. I lot more is needed to bring it on par with the likes of manchester and leeds.

There is constant demand for quality office space in the centre of sheffield with little sign of this decreasing in the coming years

Ive heard that nurmerous times "there is high demand for office space". Im not disputing that, just if that is indeed the case where are they all?! If the demand is so great why is there so little being built? I can think of many areas within the city centre which would benefit from office development, the area near the decathlon and the area up near the law courts and them new apartment developments.

P.S Where are they ones being built near Safeway?

I'm currently looking for space for my business.

I travelled to Manchester and everywhere you look there is office space and units for let.

In Sheffield there seems to be NOTHING

It's very poor and very frustrating.

I'm having to stall on my business as a result of not being able to find suitable premises.

Also if demand is so great why are we only granting permission for measly 6 storey high buildings. Especially when the council say they are running out of space in the city centre.

Also with more offices there's more investment in the city centre for regeneration therefore creating better shopping areas and nicer public places.

Exactly mate. My point. I think the council should be pushing for much higher storey office buildings..in places like manc and leeds they build offices for the sake of it and then hope they get let out. If demand is so high why dont we do that? we surely have nothing to loose

Well the demand isn't strong enough for speculative office buildings in Sheffield, so you won't see that anytime soon. However, there are moves by developers to build higher and better with better architecture.

The Planning Department is getting better and starting to give some developers thier head to produce higher quality buildings so I think that you will start to see some better buildings in the next 3-5 years. It takes time, but it's starting!

That's Redvers House - a fine 1970's building that was allowed to get shabby and has now received a VERY cheap reclad to turn it into a shadow of its former glory. SHAME!!!!

My point was that all these offices in sheffield, manchester and leeds don't you think although they do create jobs also destroy variety for jobs. For instance if someone wants to be an architect they can go to college to study this but with all these corperations like norwich union and halifax eating up all the office space then the person wanting to be an architect has to go to a place where this job is available and leave sheffield
