So who'd be up for a break the ice, getting to know you pub meet next week?

It will enable people to meet up and discuss how they see the Walkers group progressing and it will provide an opportunity to "check out" prospective walking companions.

So any takers? It would be somewhere fairly central with real ale, but apart from that I'm open to suggestions.

What a shame I'm so far away, because a pub meet would be ideal to catch up on all the gossip. I'd love to hear what you're all talking about...

Guess you'd have to be there!

I've a prior commitment, sadly, tho it'd be nice if I could join the group later on.

You sure you can't come up to meet the group, Hecate? How about if it were a Friday night, for example? Is that better for you, in future?

:)

Well not necessarily, but you're right; it would be nice to hear it first hand.

Fridays would be perfect. I'll try to fit it into the hectic whirl of my social calendar.

How 'bout the Cask & Cutler?

How 'bout the Cask & Cutler?

An excellent suggestion!

For those that do not know it The Cask is one of the Real Ale Meccas in Sheffield and is situated by Shalesmoor Tram stop.

I believe they have Budvar on tap for those people who prefer lager.

If anyone can suggest another option, my mind is open

I think anywhere is good - there are so many people who have posted that they're interested in the SF Walking Group, but if they don't come forward and join in with the group, they're going to be forever wishing that they had someone to walk with.........

Come on, people....this is a chance for you to meet up with other like-minded people. You've only got to brave the pub-thing once (or PM taxman, me, or whoever), swop phone numbers and an indication of the sort of walks you'd like to do, and then you'll be done!

It's a whole big (moorland with me, woodland with others) world out there!

:)

Sadly too far from Lincolnshire for a mid week meet, even if its at The Cask & Cutler :(

We (Mrs Grinder and I) hope to get to either a pub meet or a walk before too long.

Some people may actually only be interested in posting and using information without actually wanting to get too deeply involved.

Personally I am not in to the pub scene and would rather a different and quieter meeting venue.

I think that's a fair comment and, of course, each to his or her own! I personally have thoroughly enjoyed the company recently of my new walking companions, but if other people don't want to actually MEET anyone to walk/talk with, that's cool too. :)

Ok, wendygs, you're a co-founder of the group - why don't you start a thread to see who else would be interested in this kind of event?

My little ginger man Amos the cat doesn't like pubs, and only enjoys walking between the bed and the bowl of meaty chunks.

So its The Cask and Cutler by Shalesmoor tram stop at 8pm.

There is on street parking on Henry Street.

There is a no-smoking room to the left as you enter the pub and I'll be in there.

I will have a word with the Landlord tomorrow about whether a small well behaved beagle will be allowed but I shouldn't think that would be a problem.

See you all there!!

I'm really interested in this group, you all seem like a really friendly bunch, and I would really like to get involved, but don't know if I can do the pub thing, and if I did manage to do the pub thing I'd be so nervous you'd all think I was either completely anti-social or some kind of a nutter. It's years since I walked into a pub on my own. I've forgotten how to order a drink at a bar! Don't know if it's just a confidence thing, don't drink alcohol so never think of going to the pub. The prospect of just walking into pub alone is something I don't know if I could manage to do, let alone walk into a strange pub where I don't know anybody. I know this seems totally daft and crazy, I'm so confident in other areas of my life. :help:

I'd be very interested in meeting up in a non-pub type of venue so wonder whether you have any other suggestions for such a meeting. In my case it would also need to be fairly quiet because I've got a voice loss condition and cant compete with the noise usually found in pubs. Also cant do this week due to having been visited by central heating engineers due to the extremely urgent replacement of my central heating & hot water system.

Anorak

Yes I'd be up for meeting up in an alternative venue. But as for suggestions - I'm quite new to the area, so not really familiar with what's around here. It's taken me 2 months to learn my way to work!! Don't know whether anybody else has any suggestions.

Thanks first of all to Strix and the snoozing lop-eared navigator :suspect: for the night-lit tour of Sheffield after a shared-taxi-malfunction!

It didn't auger well when I walked in the pub and the barman, not used to beer drinking females, advised me that they stocked 'diet beers' 'fruit-flavoured beers' and 'sweet beers'. I tried to kill him with a scornful look, but he was still moving about at last orders! I've lost my touch!

I had a lovely evening, putting yet more faces to names, and actually feeling envious that you're all going on a 13 mile compass-dependent mega-hike up Kinder while I'm faffing around by the River Don (surveying rubbish to make art out of - no, really!)

I hope something'll happen on Saturday. If not it's next stop the cemetery! Eeek! Better start rehashing my history books...

Here's to the next meet. An excellent idea.
