Anyway, there were like bout 50 of them, and just wondered why they were all there? Were u one of them? Me and my bro had great fun people watching and making up stories for them all!!!!

The cross-dressing scottish-american! :loopy:
The crazy looneytune who thinks hes a DOG! :loopy:
And the tag along gurlies who dint really believe in blood swallowing, satan worshippin stuff.... just wanted to rebel against mummy and daddy and demand some attention from their parents away from their older sibling who has 47 A levels and now helps feed orphans in Taiwan! :)

Bless em. Their parents probably told them about the rockers congregating in the gardens with cider in the 70s/80's and they wanted to revive an age old rocker tradition. :hihi:

Does it matter?

I saw some young alternative skatie types doing parkour by the cathedral the other day they were fab. They probably just decided it was as it has always been a good place to meet and hang out.

If so, they'll have been having their yearly bath/shower. :hihi:

Do they need any more of a reason to be there than anyone else? Why in particular are you interested in this group of people and there reasons for being in the Peace Gardens? Maybe they like sitting in there? After all it's a nice place to sit and chat :P

I saw an Ambassador make a couple of young 'rockers' (note: these are NOT rockers, they are nu age 'rockers', there's a difference) pick up a load of litter which they'd scattered all over the grass. I heard one call the Ambassador a 'child hater' and 'insane' and 'so uncool'. Brill :)

Back in the late 70s and early 80s there was always a bunch of Rocker/Hippy/Biker types hanging around the Peace Gardens on a Saterday afternoon. We pleasantly whiled away the time between the Pubs shutting and re-opening by drinking cider from the International over the road, and occasionally throwing eachother into the fountains outside the town hall (egg box) doors.
We were doubtless intimidating to some of the older generation but did no harm, we just "hung out".
If a new generation has found this a pleasant way to pass a sunny Saterday afternoon then good luck to them!

There was no need for it to be anyone's birthday when we were there, it was just when the mood took us (or them).
Mmmmmmmmmmm the soggy, squelchy ride home on the bus was just soooooo nice, still, if you dished it out you had to expect it back!!:headbang: :headbang:

The person you are talking about is actually a really lovely lad called Bruno. He has a disorder called Williams Syndrome which is a form of Downs Syndrome. Take a peek here for more information. http://www.williams-syndrome.org.uk/ He is polite, friendly and a really genuine nice lad, as are most of the others. I know, because many of them are friends of my daughters. They are probably making the most of the last week of the holidays before they all go back to school and college.

I was there today and didn't see any of them causing any trouble, just larking around like kids do.

Ah what happened to the good old days of punks and skins sniffing glue in filthy alleys, chucking bricks at coppers and fighting the 'long-hairs' on the streets? These trendy emo / skater types are too concerned with their Green Day ringtones to cause any real trouble...

Not seen any recently but has anyone been at the peace gardens at night recently?

Went there about 2am a few weeks ago and there was just about 12 people layed out all all over it sunbathing and smokin weed. One guy came along and started to film one of those ball fountain things and when i walked up to him n asked him why he asked if he could film my feet. Was so surreal, everyone was just talking complete **** to everyone, not causing any trouble. Was like something from the 60s!

yes when i go there for my dinner all you can see is the centre of the gardens flooded with them. Not "peace" in my eyes.

If you want peace and quiet go to the library :P

Why do people have problems with groups of people if they're not causing trouble. The thread seems to have been started with the fact that a group of people were just hanging out doing nothing wrong in the Peace Gardens...what is the problem with that? Or is it that you don't like rockers/goths/emokids/anyone different? Actually they say they're different when in fact they all look the same but that's a different debate ;)

Starslight

According to a report a while back goths/rockers/emo kids are apparantly more upwardly mobile than average and grow up to become doctors/lawyers etc. So perhaps berating them in future for their choice in being 'alternative' (though i hate when they claim to be different as they are just the same but in a different way) you should encourage them.

There an article on it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4828230.stm

Haven't seen the teeny bopper goths in the Peace garden but when they're up on Devonshire Green waiting to get into Kiddy Corp it's like being surrounded by half a chess set..
As Tillman and other's have already said people have been congregating in that area for years and probably un-knowingly worrying all the old fuddy duddies although we rarely got up to mischief.
Now I'm an old fuddy-duddy it's my turn to be worried and for no good rreason

I'm a 25 year old Satanist who's in to rock/metal. Does this mean I'm trying to rebel against my parents just because I have an alternative belief system to your shallow mindedness? Considering my parents actually like rock/metal, as well as other types of music, I think your view point is very childish and I reckon you should judge yourself before trying to judge others!

Just my very humble opinion.

Methinks so too. If it wasn't for them being in to such cool music, I would never've discovered the joys of Zep, Jimi, Stones etc. And because of them, I found my love of awesome music and literature.

Yeah we could all sit there and make up names for the normal people just sitting there doing nothing.

Then we could complain about them all and tell them to get jobs!

Oh, so you assume they have no job? Why is that? Are you there in "working hours"? Why don’t you get a job instead of being a single parent and sponging off the state?

Oh, sorry, did I stereotype there and make a generalisation without knowing any facts? Isn't nice, is it?

I love your line, "stare as if to say get of our grass". Blimey! You’re good at reading stares. I wouldn't want to look in your direction; you could probably tell what I had for breakfast and my political beliefs in less than a glance.

not the same these days i should imagine :(
when it was just one large piece of grass it was excellent for everybody to sit on together, now theres just concrete, sticky out bits and no real comfy grass , plus its now all spread out more with walls and **** :(
bet they changed it on purpose for that very reason, less of the undesirables to sit together in 1 large group :(
was wikkid when it was metallers, punks, goths, winos, travellers, homeless, smackheads, crackheads, trendies and even a couple of rockabillies hanging together :)
