I have a very special house guest coming to live with me on Friday. (pictures after Friday) who requires some clothing. I have found a pattern for a sweater for him but it uses Dale of Norway Heilo (http://www.woolworks.com/Knitting/Yarn/Size%202%20Fine/Heilo/Heilo.html) does anyone know of a suitable substitute that I can get in this country? I'm thrown by the 6 st per inch. That's almost sock yarn guage isn't it? :help:
Intriguing :suspect: . That yarn is about a DK weight, or maybe a 4-ply. US size 2-3 is about 2.75-3.75 mm, so it's just a little thicker than most sock yarn. I'll have a search tomorrow and see what I can come up with. Does it have to be 100% wool, or would a high wool percentage do?
A high wool percentage would be ok I think. It needs to be soft though please.
Does God know that he's missing an angel?
The Rowan Scottish Tweed (http://www.mcadirect.com/shop/product_info.php/cPath/23_36/products_id/474) might be suitable, though the tweed look might not be what you're after. It does say that it's been treated to be extra-soft though.
There's also the Jaeger Matchmaker (http://www.mcadirect.com/shop/product_info.php/cPath/51_69/products_id/382), which is 100% Merino. The specified tension is a little out, but in your Dale of Norway yarn there seems to be some give in the needle size, so this could work.
I had a check of the Sirdar and Patons ranges too, as I thought some of the baby yarns might work. However, I think the low wool/high acrylic factor would rule them out.
If you're after something a bit more esoteric, you could have a search on Yarndex (http://www.yarndex.com/home.cfm). You can specifiy pretty strict search parameters, though you'll have to weed out the yarns which aren't available over here.
Bergere de France berlaine might work
Bergere de France Ideal may be better.

Hello everyone (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i217/turra21/aaron003.jpg),
My name is Aaron and I'm Turra21's new house guest. As you can see I'm a bit bear - sorry I couldn't resist that one:hihi: so she'd better get her sticks going pretty soon because my bear friends tell me it gets blooming cold this far north in the winter. I think she realises I'm not a polar bear.
Good to meet you all
Aaron
Aw, he's lovely :) . He definitely needs a big wooly jumper and a scarf.
