Hi All

I am a new mum of a beautiful baby boy and just wander why they make most baby food bright orange? It stains everything and is a complete nightmare.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I don't know why they don't make baby bibs orange - they're always white. :hihi:
Seriously, though, I think most of them contain carrots or tomato. There won't be any artificial colourings in them.
Congratulations by the way - how old is your baby boy?

I agree - the colour, and the smell of baby food is very odd, and, although I'm far from a knit-your-own-food type of person, I have to admit I cooked all my little boy's food from scratch, mainly because I couldn't taste baby food from jars without feeling queasy... :gag:

If you can get a hold of a copy of Gina Ford's book on weaning, that's an absolutely fool-proof start (PM me if you want to borrow my copy), and Annabel Karmel also has nice recipes in her books (we actually ate some as a family on a self-catering holiday!). It's easiest to cook a load then freeze in ice-cube trays and decant into bags - sorry if that sounds blindingly obviously but it took me some time to get round to doing that...

Now of course, at 3.5, he exists on fishfingers and M&S kiddie ready meals, without me batting an eyelid, but at least I made an effort early on..!

Hope this helps

Vicky

It's the ingredients, not the colour that freaks me out. Annabel Karmel points out that most baby food contains the stabiliser chemical which is also used as glue on postage stamps :gag:

Hey if it's good enough for the back of Her Madge's head it's good enough for junior ;)

If it's any consolation, pensioners food tends to resemble potted meat.

Well it does when they've gummed it for an hour, absorbed a µ-gm of nutrition & then regurgitated it onto the side of their plate.

Actually. I wonder if that's where potted meat comes from :suspect:
