Hi

A while ago I found a great pattern for fingerless mittens on the internet - basically just a tube with a hole for your thumb....but now I've got time to make them, and it's getting cold, I can't find it!

So, I'm going to make a pattern up...is it as easy as just measuring my wrists and knitting something the same size and girth?

Was planning to make them ribbed so they'd be nice and stretchy - can anyone suggest the best way forward. I realise this is really beginners stuff, but that's me!

Cheers
Vicky

Hi Vicky,

you might find something on here (http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/mittens_gloves.php)

or you could adjust one of the patterns to suit :)

Voodoo (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter02/PATTvoodoo.html) from Knitty were the ones I immediately thought of. They're basically a ribbed tube with a button hole for the thumb.

There's an even easier idea here (http://www.knitlist.com/01gift/wrist-warmers.htm). Hunt down a glove or mitten pattern to get an idea for the number of stitches to cast on (or use the number specified in the Voodoo pattern).

I'm making something like those (http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l235/gempud/Wrist%20Warmers/DSCF0025.jpg) at the moment. The pattern is from an issue of Simply Knitting from a few months ago.

Thanks very much for the responses...I'm going to give a few of them a go (a girl can never have too many knitted accessories I find...also a grand way to use up bits and pieces of wool lI've got ying around from other projects). I'm due to have an operation quite soon so have about ten weeks of staying in bed ahead of me....hooray for knitting, I could have produced a whole wardrobe by Christmas!
