No it isn't sponsored by Kelloggs.

Not sure if Malcolm Elliot will be riding. I think he is currently leading the British Elite Premiership table.

Really?

I thought he's be on the master tour or something? :D

I remember when he won the Milk Race around 1987.

Check my timing, I'm in UK when the Tour De France is on, and I'm in France when the Tour of Britain is on!

Some advanced planning on my part next year maybe?

Right all being well - I am going to watch this, I dont want to travel that far so I thought I would go to Fox House and watch them come up the hill from Hathersage. I know its hardly Alpe 'D' Huez but its a bit of a climb. So I will be at the corner of Surprise View, about 2ish

Sounds good, not sure you'll have time to make it into town for the finish though.

I'm pondering whether to take the day off and watch it en-route somewhere and then head into town for the finish and a few beers.

I doubt it, unless they are doing a load of circuits around the town centre, any idea Dug?

I guess I will wait until the day to see what the weather is like, its not going to be much fun stood out at Fox House if its bucketing it down.

I reckon the top of Fox House (before they drop down to Dore Moor) must be the final climb on this route

Yes from Fox House descend all the way down Hathersage/Ecclesall Road.

Based on the estimated timings I doubt there will be any circuits of the city centre.

Its not really a tour of Britain as such as 3 of the stages are all between here and Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester.
Theres a couple in Wales but a real tour would be from South to North or visa versa.
Ah well i will be at the top of the Snake i think, although Holme Moss might be a good point to.
George Hincapie, Ekimos and Vironque are all riding.

Starts today - but had a look at the TV guide and not a bean on Tele anywhere.

Comes to Sheffield tomorrow.

Just noticed on the Tour of Britain website that the route takes the riders down Psalter Lane into town rather than Eccelsall Road.

Holme Moss is a good place to be as you can see the ascent. It's hardly the Ventoux but it means you get to see the riders for longer. Then, after a short wait, you can follow them down the descent on your bike...scary!

The tour of Britain comes to Sheffield today and can be seen at the finishing point at the town hall about 3 pm today.
Anyone wanting to visit the hilly bits, the best spot is the Ringinglow turn off above the Millstone up to Burbage Moor which is were I will be or top of the Snake.
Holme Moss is another good point but if driving you need to go early as the roads will be closed.
Access is better by bike.
Come and support Cycling and enjoy the sunshine too.

Any non-cycling bus catching city centre dwellers must remember that Pinstone Street and Charter Street? will be shut for 5 hours so buses will be in chaos during that period.

Car drivers can find alternative routes missing these city centre roads.

Just this minute got back in the office after wandering down to see the guys finish. The place was heaving and I couldn't get anywhere near the side of the road to get a good look at the riders as they wizzed past. This is just the sort of stuff that Sheffield needs so bring on all other sporting events!!!!

Just got back from watching the race at that sharpish corner just below Fox House. Quite a few people turned out, it was all quite exciting!

(especially considering I don't have a clue about cycling!)

Just got back from the finish. Didn't manage to get any pics as there were too many people.

Had a nosey around the bikes and riders afterwards though, I'd thought that the security would have been tighter.

I think there was about 100 riders

There was a 7 man break away, and then a chasing pack of about 40 riders, then the rest.

Has anyone been out to see them already or plans to? I saw them in Derbyshire today, a group of 3 had broken away and stretched out 13 mins between them and the peloton after only about 1h 20 mins of the stage. Great to see the tour back on.

Edited- didn't spot this thread so started my own, hence why the first bit might not make sense bearing in mind it seems like you're all talking about it already!!

I was in Bakewell yesterday for the start of the stage and spoke to a couple of the top riders,Bradley Wiggins and Roger Hammond, both we're very apraochable,in fact i think Brad was a little surprised by the amout of attention he was getting. All the riders including Andreas Kloden,2nd to lance i this years t.d.france signed autographs and spoke to there fans, and they wer'nt surrounded by any minders telling people to stay away from the "star" riders.
Went to finish at Nottingham, after the finish, there was Roger Hammond talking and signing autigraphs again,im glad to be a cycling fan!!!

Yeah agreed, the riders were superb, got some pics in Bakewell myself.
Looked for Botero but could'nt spot him.
Could'nt get to Nottingham due to work commitments but a good morning was spent by all.
A well organised event.
