Now you see them now you don't…
COUNCIL workers painted double yellow lines on a Sheffield road then astounded residents by covering them with asphalt three weeks later.

Margaret Hemming, of Crimicar Lane, Fulwood, was amazed when council workmen arrived this week to resurface the road outside her house, weeks after the council's Street Force section painted double yellow lines when bus shelters were installed.
She said: "What a waste of money!
"They spent I don't know how much on double yellow lines outside three houses. Now they've just gone and covered them all up.
"I went out to say 'Why are you doing that, they've only just painted those lines on?'
"One of the workmen told me 'Oh, someone will be round sometime soon to paint them again'.
"How stupid is that? I can't believe the money they waste in this city. What kind of people have we got running Sheffield?"
Council officers insist they have not wasted money, they've saved it. A spokesman for Sheffield Council said: "The yellow lines at Crimicar Lane were laid down six weeks ago following changes to some road junctions and bus stopping areas as part of a road safety scheme in the area, so it was imperative the work was done immediately for safety reasons.
"The resurfacing work was brought forward at short notice as the council had a contractor doing similar work nearby on Fulwood Road and saved a considerable sum by combining the work on Crimicar Lane with that contract.
"The cost of re-painting the road markings was minimal in relation to the savings made by combining the two resurfacing jobs.
"Our aim is always to co-ordinate any roadworks to minimise traffic disruption and to provide the best value for local council tax payers but we will also take these opportunities to save money by re-programming work at short notice if possible."

Hi Chuckle,

For future reference, I've removed the bold this time, but I'd like to remind you of our posting guidelines :

" - Must not be completely bolded - maximum of 3 bolded lines (excluding quote) "

Also, if you must cut and paste, please provide a source.

Thanks,

Joe
