Hi,

As a group of animal lovers i know i am in the right place!

I 'work' for Akita Rescue and Welfare, and i am not ashamed to admit we need help. We are a national charity taking Akitas from all situations and rehoming them.

Recently we dealt with a 12 month old male who was tied up in the garden on a 2 foot chain, he had no shelter or water and he got fed once a week!
We were called when the owner realised she couldnt cope, and now he is in a lovley home where his new daddy sleeps on the sofa if the dog is in the bed!!

Unfortunatly this is not rare, We do not have kennels and rely on volunteers to foster dogs till they can find a new home, some take longer than others but the one thing they all have in common is they need help! We do get help from Battersea and other kennels but there just arnt enough spaces.

So i am asking if you could help by becoming a foster family, not all the dogs have been treated badly they all have there own story to tell, but you will be told everything about the dog you are to foster. All expences will be paid.

Akitas are large, powerful dogs so please make sure you have read up on this breed and know what you are taking on.

If you would like to help or to know more then please PM me.

Please visit the website to see the wonderful dogs we have available at the moment. www.akitarescue.org.uk
There are other ways to help than fostering or rehoming, like help with transport and donations, and also spreading the word about Akitas!

Thanks for your time in reading this message

I'm surprised nobody has offered any assistance or asked any more questions Claire!

They're such a popular breed :)

Perhaps if you have specific dogs to tell us about, people would show more interest?

I would love to say that I could help you, but I have a house with 4 cats in and I'm unable to walk dogs due to disabilities. It sounds like such a rewarding thing that you do- I sincerely wish you well with it.

I dont think people are snubbing your request claire, they may just not be in a position to help. Im the same, im animal crackers and would love to help out, but with 1 cat, 1 dog (and another 2 dogs that stay here most of the time), 2 kids and my own commitments i wouldnt have the time or energy, good luck with your plight anyway xxx

Oh Clare I would dearly love to help... just waiting for that lottery win so I can quit work & get a bigger house, then I'll be taking them in by the dozen! :)

AHH thanks guys,

i understand people have to think carefully about this, I did foster the dogs myself but now we have a baby daughter we dont have them.

But there is good news we have managed to rehome several of the dogs including a long termer so we dont have so many on the books now!

Thanks Strix if there are any particular dogs we need help with i will post, but it is all quite on the western front for now!!

Thanks again guys!

I have a link to your rescue on my web site www.rainrescue.co.uk and have dealt with your co-ordiantor a number of times, as she has taken dogs from pounds that we have had. Also, we pass any Akita enquiries that we have over to her.

Thank goodness some people care enough to do something.

We struggle more with akita crosses than with the pure breds - hardly any rescue centes will take them off us.
