View Full Version : Car broken in to, at Norfolk Park
MARY POPPINS 28-08-2006, 17:31 My Friend has just been to the show thats been in Norfolk Park today, come back to her car and the windows and door are all smashed, shes waiting for the police to come but I've told her to go home cos they'll probably come in about a week,I don't think they will class a car break in as urgent, anybody else had any trouble, there.
No problems at all. I had my bullet proof vest on and encased the car in a metal block just for safety though.
lalaland 28-08-2006, 22:38 MARY POPPINS, while it's a horrible thing to happen, and your friend has my sympathies, it's not always worth officers attending something like this unless there's something to go on.
If there's a witness / someone with descriptions then it's worth taking a statement, but this can be done at a Police station by seeing the station officer. This keeps officers available for higher priority duties instead of paper work.
Finger prints, DNA and other evidence is often worth collecting though, but in many cases the criminals are aware of this and wear stuff to prevent them leaving any.
It's not that the Police don't consider what's happened to your friend to be important, but they have limited resources and need to prioritise.
I hope your friend gets sorted out, it's annoying when these things happen.
Have you checked the area to see if any premises have CCTV?
Pig2Pugs 29-08-2006, 10:46 You'll end up with a crime ref No and not much else from the police!
MARY POPPINS Why do you seam suprised that your mates car got broken into on Norfolk Park? At least they did'nt torch it eh.

MARY POPPINS Why do you seam suprised that your mates car got broken into on Norfolk Park? At least they did'nt torch it eh.Norfolk Park does appear to be higher than some other areas for crime. Did they take anything or was it just a malicious act?

Did she pay to use the official (staffed) car park or just park in the streets nearby?
I asssume the break in the car was in the Park itself.
There was hundreds of cars so it was just unfortnate to pick that car.
Was there anything on display for them to take, mobile, cash, sat nav, even sat nav holders!!
I assume no matter where the event was hold, there would have been at least 1 car broken into!
Cars are always having their windows smashed and presumably robbed on Farm Road (just round the corner). I think a lot of commuters park there during the week.
I walk that way to and from work and it is horrifying how often this is the case.
I appreciate that there is not a lot the police can do afterwards - but rather than more speed cameras why not have more street safety cameras in places like this to catch and prosecute the bu**ers. I'm sure it will be down to one or two groups or individuals who will be well known to the police.

Surely the criminals would just go to areas where there weren't any cameras - so you'd have to have every bit of road under surveillance! Also wearing a cap or hood seems to render CCTV useless - what are the chances of a criminal fiting into that category. :suspect:
They obviously target certain areas because the owner is unlikely to be returning any time soon and the chances of them being seen is very low - like farm road where there are no houses for people to see them doing these crimes and most of the owners are at work. Yes they may just go somewhere else, but why make it so easy for them.

I walk that way to and from work and it is horrifying how often this is the case.Unfortunately this is extremely common. Devices such as sat nav and car stereos left unattended in cars make it a very quick and easy crime. There was a thread recently about this very subject on Sheffield forum with some good tips in for reducing the chance of this happening to you.

I'm sure it will be down to one or two groups or individuals who will be well known to the police. These are two seperate issues. Road safety and vehicle crime are both problems that need addressing. The best thing to do is increase funding to the Police so more recruits can be taken on and also make the public more community focused. There are still people in Sheffield that would witness events like this and not even think to report it or come forward after the event.
