View Full Version : Would anyone be interested in a seed / plant / produce swop?

Hi all

Yesterday I started thinking about the possibility of an Allotment and Gardening Group seed / plant and produce swop. This came about as I was thinking back to July, when we had more new potatoes than we could eat, but very little of anything else! The idea is that if you found yourself with tubs and tubs of tomatoes, you could swop them with another forummer who had (for example) a load of cucumber fruits and hopefully, we'd all end up with a balance of fresh, home grown produce.

The same principle could apply to seeds and seedlings - as I have quite a small plot, I always find myself with loads of spare seeds and plants. The seeds do generally keep, but it would be nice to swop them and try some different varieties!

Would anyone else be interested? If the response is good, I'll have a think about how best to make it happen!

Ordinarily yes. Unfortunately this year most of my veggies have failed so I'll be freezing what we did get.
My own silly fault - I was too late planting.

Next year I'm planning on taking Gooseberry bush cuttings.....
Me & my plans

Ah, It'll be a 'next year' thing for me too really - I'm planning ahead! I have a lot of structural changes to make to the plot over the winter so I won't be doing much else then, but I have no doubt that next spring I'll be up to my eyes in surplus seedlings again :P It'd be great to swop some of the extras for something different.

I also have a vague idea for a Allotment and Gardening group stall, perhaps at something like next year's Middlewood Festival, assuming anyone would be interested in something like that! *ponder* :)

It's just dawned on me that I've missed a perfect opportunity to go on about my plums here :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

It's gnomes you get in gardens.... not trolls ;)

I'd be interested in swapping :)
I need to get planning permission for my greenhouse first though (don't tell me I don't, coz in this house I do ;) )

Well, that's three of us - and I'm sure more people will show an interest as we get closer to the new growing season :)

Strix - I remember you saying in another thread that you have very particular covenants attached to your property, so you'll hear no mutterings about not needing planning permission from me :P
