If it's private land someone must own I'm sure. Try and find out who, they may not be aware its being used.

okka north 28-08-2006, 10:47 play some clasical music from your back yard, they will only be able to tolerate it for so long, or your best love songs dvd, they will be gone even quicker if you play that:hihi:
well if they are having campfires this is actually arson whether it is private land or not. I know because once upon a time i was young...
Best thing to phone the police about it. I wouldnt approach them to be on the safe side, i know how stubborn and viscious some young people can be.

find out if its private land or not first, talk to the police about it.

Welcome to the forum perky. I am a city councillor for Gleadless, and may be able to assist you with this problem.
I need some more information, e.g., precise location of these fields, etc.
I'll send you a PM (Private Message) with my e-mail address.
Red
Until there is something better to do in Gleadless then there is not really much hope. Teens in Gleadless having a campfire in a field is no different to teens in California who have campfires on the beach. They want to be together and want something to do. If you are unhappy yes you should voice your concerns, but what is there for teens to do in Gleadless?
Don_Kiddick 28-08-2006, 17:08 This nothing-to-do mallarchy is a load of bull.
There was nothing to do in Dinnington when I was a teen, so we'd go round each others houses & watch TV, thats when there was ONLY 3 channels to choose from!
We never had to set fire to stuff & get off our heads on white litenin.
There's something inherrantly abnormal in the youth of today
Hypocrisy. Perky's sinature says " Life is for living". Obviously if it's not in Perky's back yard. Probably just kids trying to live life whilst they are young. Buy earplugs if its that bad. Summer will be over soon and "the youths" will no doubt be back on street corners giving Perky yet more sleepless nights.

Yeah it's the adults of today giving them a hard time.

The youth of today have over 200 channels. TV shows like Friends and the OC paint the picture of having loads of friends, living life to the full etc etc. Teens today aren't going to sit at home and watch TV, they want to go out and feel 'popular'. In today's world, the desire to feel 'wanted' and 'belong to something' is stronger than ever (Maslow's Heirachy of Needs). Adults keep banging on about youths etc, but what was common for teens decades ago is not common now. Would you dream of giving a toy from the 1960s to a kid for Christmas? Times have changed. There is a big problem out there, 'youths' will tell you that there is nothing to do. It's just a waiting game until someone does something for them and gives them a chance.

He's entitled to a good night's sleep without having to resort to earplugs and the "kids" need to learn consideration for the people they live around and that doesn't always involve doing exactly what you want all the time....

I'm still waiting to hear from perky, but until I know the exact location, I'm unable to follow up this particular problem.
al_partridge 28-08-2006, 23:02 Take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
I think you should approach them rationally and say that you don't wanna spoil their fun but could they compromise with the music and fire and explain why. I usually find if you're nice it shocks them and if you treat them like humans you'll get what you want.

There are often better sites without nearby houses that may suit them better. Aslong as they take there rubbish with them. May be go out walking and find a better site for them . Leave them a letter explaining your issues and map. with thte better non intusive alternative.
I used to do go off and camp in forrest or park sites with mates when i was younger. Didn't bother anybody we used to leave places tidyer than we found them

I remember speaking to someone about youth facilities some years ago. They talked about a church hall which had been opened up with a few seats and a pool table. Predictably the teens shunned it and went off elsewhere. The council are not that clued up with regards to youth facilities, hence the pod. You only have to look at the 'Mega Travel Travel Pass' bus ads to see how clued up Sheffield is on the youth today (when was the last time anyone actively used the word Mega in a sentance??!!). It's an issue I do feel strongly about, particularly those who put the kids down. Yes they are a pain, their behaviour is often unacceptable, but it is a problem and there has to be a solution. Maybe not a solution that will wipe out every single form of anitsocial activity/ behaviour, but something which will make life better for teens and local people.

What am I going to do about it??
Seeing as their parents have failed? Or not even bothered?
Render them down & make wellies out of them. Useless plebs.
I would put them in the army for 5 years and give them the correct discipline & parenting they have obviously failed to receive so far.
Then they would have the option of staying in as a professional or using a trade they have learned to be a useful member of society.
That way the bleeding heart brigade will be able to focus on real issues like law abiding citizens rights to a quiet & peacefull existance.
It's always someone elses responsibility isn't it?

Interesting thread.
I can see the points of the people talking about 'youths' and their antisocial behaviour, Don is particularly eloquent and funny.
But is camping in a field and having a fire really that anti-social? I distinctly remember the scouts doing it, apparently with the conivance and assistance of the community and adults...

I have had this conversation with minime. Its not the council that hand out the money, its the residents groups etc that apply for the money and oversee the regeneration/projects. get a group and get organised!
Why do you (earlier posters) think that the council should provide money to entertain these kids.
Do they not have parents?

Gleadless Valley Stewardship Project
What is it?
The Gleadless Valley Stewardship Project was set up to empower local people to become community stewards and to champion Gleadless Valley’s ancient woodlands and greenspaces as a well used community asset.
It is a partnership project between the Sheffield City Council Parks and Countryside Ranger Service, Sheffield Wildlife Trust and the Gleadless Valley Wildlife Trust.
What do we do?
The project is looking for local people around the Gleadless Valley who want to help make the Valley safe and clean for everybody. If you only report one problem a year, your help will be invaluable.
The Gleadless Valley Project team undertakes a variety of different activities to promote the woodlands and the greenspaces of the Gleadless Valley. We undertake environmental education with schools and local people and a variety of events ranging from wildlife quizzes to wildlife identification days. We undertake practical management tasks and community workdays.
Theres also the Tenants association
I suggest you get in touch with your local councillor once you as a group of concerned residents have decided what you need, you can apply for a SCC small grant to start a project off the application form is very straight forward and you could apply via the tara.

Not even city councillors are expected to work 24 hours a day, and occasionally have personal time when they are allowed to do whatever they want. I'm sure that redrobbo's post was intended to be helpful to the OP.
Personal attacks on other users are unfair and unacceptable on Sheffield Forum. Whatever you are discussing, there are ways to do it without turning the thread into a string of insults. Users who post insults have to expect their posts to be removed and bans.

Ah, it was all different when I was 12 - 16. Oh no, I remember (it wasn't that long ago), we managed to amuse ourselves, but without causing trouble, twoking, mugging, happy slapping, or burning things. Amazing how things change, yet they stay the same, or is that the other way around?

I already asked whether youths camping could be considered anti-social in any way.
I don't think it can really, it's no different to them being in the scouts.
You were the one who wants council money for the poor darlings though.

no i dont ! i want to try to help the children/youths so the estate has a youth club or a centre to go to.and actually all my work is voluntary for schools and projects and all the money we have used to buy items for children are all through fundraising i have done it for school i will also do what i can to help the community by fundraising events !!!!!! as for the camping yes it can be classed anti social depending what they are doing. But on private land with the owners permission then there is not much anyone can do
sorry i didnt mean to start a debate over youths.it was just the noise i was irritated over didnt mean they was thieves, muggers or anything else come to that

Users who post insults have to expect their posts to be removed and bans.
how can it be considered an insult to say that some1 who is a counsellor should be working instead of browsing forum's... it's merely an observation surely???
i have been subject to insult's an banter myself i'll think you find...!!! anyway who are you his secretary :hihi:

Nestle run a project called Make Space, which aims to fund youth clubs / centres etc. Various other companies have a vairety of schemes, but it is a complicated process of applying for the funding.

Just chill everyone, going out camping with your mates is probably one of the most social things to do,instead of sitting on a forum bitching about kids camping.
If people are interested in things for there kids to do,me and a some people(including alan deadman) have just got a grant to start a youth night in sheffield, were going to be playing some of the best hiphop dubstep drum and bass and reggae sheffield has to offer, from 6-10pm,at the everyone centre in meersbrook.for £3,so if you want something for them to do,tell them about it,its on the 30th september, and hopefully every month there-on.
look out for flyers -CENTRALSOUND.
