What are the advantages/disadvantages or benefits of working for an agency as opposed to a permanent job with a company ? The reason I ask is, I passed my LGV Class 1 in Nov 04. I was concerned about turning up for different jobs not knowing what I would be doing from one day to the next if I went with an agency. I preferred to know what I would be turning up to do and be familiar with the vehicle I would be driving. This was mainly because of my inexperience and possibly the risk of something serious happening. I did get a couple of permanent jobs and worked several months for a couple of companies in 2005. However, I really did not appreciate the working hours involved. I obviously did realise it was not 9 to 5 and I was prepared to be as flexible as possible. I left an office job to do the driving, so it was something I wanted to do but I was working between 50 and 60 hours a week. The jobs themselves were okay and I enjoyed the freedom, but I was constantly knackered. Now, I admit I am no spring chicken and maybe if I was 20 years younger it would be a different story. I am now back in an office job, but I do miss the freedom and responsibility of driving. I do not want to make the same mistake twice and ultimately, driving may not be for me, but any thoughts or advice you might have would be appreciated.
