View Full Version : Lazer Zone has got rubbish

Hi all, I have decided to make use of the forum to air an issue that I feel needs to be brough to the attention of other people within Sheffield.

I have been a long standing member of something known as Laser Quest/Laser Zone, and I have spent a lot of time going to these venues, the original one was based where the Bankers Draft is and was a brilliant place, the new one is located on Bank Street and until today was a great place.

I say until today because I went accompanied by two others who have taken a great liking to this pasttime, but we found out to our massive dissapointment that they have taken the rather stupid and crazy decision to change everything, it is now Q-Zar, which in my opinion and a lot of others that I know of is not a very good version of the game, let me explain why :-

For a start, the laser guns now speak, so half the time you are trying to work out what the hell they are saying which distracts you from playing the game and enjoying the experience.

Secondly, you have to energize your guns, so this means, mucking about, going back to the start to get your gun sorted, all the while your being shot, again, distracting from the fun.

Thirdly, the packs are now some kind of stupid american football style jackets, which are highly restricting and nearly strangle you while your playing, which is very uncomfortable and yet again, spoils things.

Finally, they have totally done away with the everyone for themselves rule, so only team games are available, which is daft when there is not a lot of people wanting to play, I mean, 3 people, 2 on one team and 1 person on another, unfair.

Anyways, the reason I am typing this post is to try and get others who have had the same experience as myself to try and get it through to the establishment that this new version of laser zone is unacceptable and can they please bring back the old but fun version.

I've played both and I quite like Quazar actually.
The old site where the Bankers is was much better in my opinion anyway. Paintball is the way forward, or maybe airsoft.

Can you please give your reasons for preferring this version ?

It is my own opinion that it is a damn site worse than it was, and this is not an opinion expressed solely by myself, so if you have justifiable reasons for liking it, then I would be intrigued as to what they are.

also gives away your position I'd expect...
Thanks for informing us - I went there with a group of mates who really enjoyed it, but I won't bother going again now.

What a coincidence! I happened to go there at the weekend. Not been before, but I thought it was great fun. I agree the talking guns were a bit irritating, although I couldn't really hear what they were saying anyway, and I thought the American football type gear was a bit uncomfortable, but nothing that would stop me from going again. I was hopeless though, and kept getting shot although couldn't work out who by most of the time. I thought it was a huge laugh.

You should have gone before when they had the old system in place, you would see what I mean about it going downhill, it used to be a great place, you could get on with having fun without all the problems that there is now.

I didn't say it was better or worse, just that I liked it.
Sometimes it's fun to play a team game, and the recharge thing (which is when you've died 3 times right), actually makes it possible for a team to capture territory and hold it. I never understood what the gun was saying though.

I remember years ago I played the Quazar at the Superbowl and didn't think much to it. There was no running and idiots would shoot you and then proceed to follow you and shoot you again as soon as they were permitted to do so without you been able to do a thing.

There's a paintball company down at Malin Bridge - maybe give them a call ?

I remember playing at laserzone in the 90's, and I would say that it has improved vastly.

There's no point in bothering with what the gun is saying apart from when it tells you to go back to the energiser, and when you do, you can't get shot because your pack is disabled until you reload. I think the guns are better as you no longer have to keep your fingers on the sensor which I personally beleive makes the game worse. As for team games, just ask the guy at the desk and he'll change the game type for you. To be honest I don't see why people should think this place is worse than it used to be, I just count my lucky stars laserzone is still open after all these years, which is surely a testament to how popular it still is.

Did you ever play in the previous venue though?

Admittedly this topic has been revived after 4 years, and I haven't played in that time.

Hiya

Ive have played this type of game in many places....with many names....MEGAZONE, QUAZER, and also this version......and i think its a great game, ..... the re energise rule is there for a reason,. ....to get people learning not to get shot......and the packs are now standard through out the country......i will say that they should have more than one area with vary sizes, depending on the amount of people they get.......

Do people still play Quazar type games then? I thought the majority of people stopped caring about 10 years ago.. :suspect:

The mid 90s rang, they want their harmless "lazer" game back.

haha.....they didnt stopped caring ......they either wanted to drink or wanted to grow up.......rather than let there hair down and have some fun.........

if someone created a cheaper version were kids could play for ages, and it was big.....you would have the hit of the century...and it would get kids off the street.....and getting fit.....and working as a team.....

You'll find Rich that as you get older and things become less interesting to you, younger people take them up. The majority of people of your age probably don't care, but I expect it's still popular with teens.
