Hi,
I'm a second year student at Sheffield University, a trumpet player wanting to start a funky brass band with both other students and Sheffield residents.
My idea is to have both a large brass section and a large percussion section, in the style of old New Orleans Brass bands. We would play a mix of traditional New orleans tunes, funk tunes and hopefully write our own music in the not too distant future. I'm looking for any brass or drummers / percussion players interested in the music, who would be willing to contribute and improvise parts, and who would not expect everything laid out for them. Hopefully we would do a big variety of gigs, and maybe even some collaboration work with other groups, which could be fun.
Bands to listen to if you're not really sure what I mean - Youngblood Brass band, Dirty Dozen Brass, ReBirth Brass, a loads of brass-friendly funk / disco tunes.
Cheers, Andrew
