And about time to.
It’s about time seriously overweight people stopped moaning about being persecuted and victimised and realised the long-term health implications of their actions, and its consequent effect on the NHS.
What do others think?

I think this is quite right, along with smokers, drinkers, people who do sports and keep fit (potential injuries) people who have bad eye sight and may have an accident, people who sleep around and contract STd's, oh people who eat unhealthily but still for some insane reason manage to stay slim.... mmm i'm off to think of a few more people who might put a strain on the NHS by living their lives unwisely

people who get old, people who catch diseases ?

He could start by popping Prescott:thumbsup:
Sitting all day at a computer dosen't help either like a lot of jobs require now.
Moonbird 23-08-2006, 12:15 people who get old, people who catch diseases ?
Yes Nick ....and also we should stop foreign holidays we can't have them comng back here spreading all kinds of diseases, and why should the NHS treat these self inflicted problems? they chose to get the disease by traveling didn't they? also people should not be allowed to move from the place they were born for fear of spreading unhealthy genes throughout the rest of the population..........oh there is much to think about to save money for the NHS.
lets get people healthier:)
Lets promote cycling as a cheap way of getting people healthier and more environmetally friendly:)
There's too many bikes so - lets introduce a new tier of administration and require all bikes to be registered:loopy: :loopy: (Ken Livingstone)
If everyone got private health insurance and didn't use the NHS anymore that would save money.

Thats just what they would like, but they would still take our money for the NHS wether we use it or not wouldn't they? like all kind of benefits they want us to pay in but never use the service we pay for!
CockneyMafia 23-08-2006, 12:26 I have images of Blair employing a "fat squad" who go round on horseback rounding up salad dodgers, a la Planet Of The Apes...

or setting big bamboo cage traps with a fairy cake as bait, like in the other Planet Of The Apes film.
I reckon most fat people are fat by choice, so let 'em get on with it. Let them let them lead unhealthy lives, if that's what they want. If it isn't what they want, are they doing anything about it? I mean really doing something, not an hour a week at the gym.
Bit of a wild fantasy given that what this story is really about is simply one of the Ministers in DoH has been given the job of working across departments with a view to developing a strategy for tackling the issue. Ideal time for a bit more publicity, too, with the high profile Olympics looming on the horizon.
If the Government really wanted to "declare war" on the issue they'd ban all unhealthy foods, ban driving and ban ale. As it is, "declaring war" is a bit erm...News Of The World. It's more like "Tony Blair has a quiet chat about..."

That's a feeble excuse for those eating too much/not doing enough exercise.
When i switched to a desk job 3 years ago I put 4 lbs on before i reduced my food intake and increased my exercise to compensate. I'm now fitter and slimmer than I was then.
Perhaps Blair should lead by example and get rid of those 'manboobs' of his that one of the tabloids took great delight in printing.

Blair is trying to declare war on anything and everything before his reign as President is terminated.
Let me guess, he "feels strongly" on this matter:suspect:
As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. What tangable steps has he actually taken ?
Are there any tax breaks planned for people who attend gyms ?
Is he going to tax fatty foods/sofa's etc ?
Are schools going to get their sports grounds back ?
Just more soundbites from a man who is looking more desperate by the day.
