View Full Version : Strawberry flavoured bananas
The world's gone mad.
An Amercian company's planning to make strawberry flavoured bananas, because, apparantly banana flavoured ones are boring
Whatever next? Cheese flavoured apples? Coffee flavoured oranges? Chocolate flavoured tuna?
Crazy, Crazy, Crazy. :loopy:
Yanks are stupid...
mimicraze 08-07-2004, 12:43 i saw it yesterday on Newsround i thought the same. how bloody stupid can you get lol. itd put me off bananas, sounds gross. love strawberries as they are and bananas too!! will it be the same texture then? and same nutrition etc? cant be good for ya!!
I know for sure that already in an experimental site in Lincolnshire they are trialling different coloured carrots, this is apparently at the request of one of the supermarket groups who want something different.

Carrots used to be purple anyhow : http://www.gardenline.usask.ca/veg/carrot-1.html so changing colour may not be so bad
On the mixed-up fruit front, I think a Terry's chocolate orange would be cool if they could make one. Whether a brown orange would look right remains to be seen :P
I think the banana industry would be better off getting bananas to taste of bananas first.
Does anybody else find that you have to let bananas ripen until almost black before they actually taste of bananas?

Thats when you should eat any fruit, as the sugar content is at its highest when its almost rotten, if you eat them green you might as well eat a carrot.......maybe a chocolate flavoured carrot would be a seller..mmmm just a thought.

This is wrong, wrong, wrong. Why spoil 2 perfectly good pieces of fruit by turning them into the other.
And what side effects on our health will there be from the process?

Now now...no racist remarks :nono:
I can remember when Iceland not that long ago tried out chocolate flavoured sprouts or carrots in an attempt to encourage children to eat their veg. It couldn't have worked as they soon stopped producing them.

Seems to afflict supermarket bananas. We had some off the local greengrocer in Hillsorough recently that tasted a lot better than those we usually get from Morrisons.
Here's a question for you philosophers.
If a banana doesn't taste like a banana is it still a banana?
If it tastes like a strawberry is it a strawberry?
When does the strawberryness of the banana take over so that its banananess takes a back seat and the fruit becoems a strawberry??
Sorry - it's been a very long day!
Since when you ask someone what something new tastes like, and they find it hard to describe, the response is "it tastes a bit like chicken" I suggest we bring all our foods into line by making them chicken flavoured.
Chicken flavoured Bananas, Chicken flavoured Sprouts, Chicken flavoured chocolate - to standardise the national pallate why not brew only Chicken flavour beer too?
If you buy a strawberry milkshake, or a banana yoghurt in future, what will it taste of?

I read somewhere else that there's a disease that will make bananas extinct in 10 years anyway.

Bartender! Give me two of what he's drinking!
Nomme
LoopyLou 08-07-2004, 20:01 not sure the vegetarians would agree with everything tasting of chicken!!
I love the idea of choccy bananas. reminds me of my youth, we would partly cut open a banana and push squares of chocolate inside. Then wrap in foil and push them into the embers of a camp fire. warm chocolatey and very scrummy.....
why not? I'm vegan but I eat "mock chicken" - chicken flavoured braised gluten!
LoopyLou 08-07-2004, 20:11 I hope that tastes better than it sounds !!
thankfully it does..
especially when it is cooked in a nice szechuan (sp?) sauce at the Tim Po Moor!
Anyway, back on-topic, I love bananas in coconut milk with cinnamon. Strawbanas, Banberries or whatever you want to call these strawberry bananas just wouldnt taste the same

Crazy, Crazy,
Crazy. :loopy:
it would be choc flav everything with some people. :loopy:
I agree, it's Wako.
Phanerothyme 08-07-2004, 22:08 I think it amazingly unimaginative.
If you are going to genetically engineer a banana:
make it psychedelic.
just imagine, mescaline bananas.
morphine bananas
psilocybin bananas
dmt+maoi bananas
l-dopa bananas
melatonin bananas
glow in the dark lysergic acid amide bananas.
Strawberry flavour bananas is just such a wasted opportunity.

Try organic bananas - I tried some a while ago on cheapie and they were so much better than a standard supermarket banana that I was amazed!
I was interested to see that, according to the article, they weren't going to genetically modify the bananas - so what are they planning to do - inject each one with strawberry flavouring????
