OMG that looks like the most amazing place ever!
You'll have to tell us all about it!
Wow, how did you find that place Willman?
If we ever move to Scotland, this is exactly what I'd like to do :)

tbh spent 2 years looking.
found Helsbury & another place more Devon based with chalets.was gonna book the chalets ('cos it was cheaper) until i mentioned 5 dogs & they didn't want to know.
if its any good(which it prob will be) i will be making an annual pilgrimage for the forseeable future.
it cost me less last year for 2 holidays to the Greek Islands.
 *puts house up for sale and makes plans for move to Scotland*
I'm getting thoroughly fed up with the restrictions placed on dogs these days, but that's a completely different thread - I'll compose it later ;)

I think Strix would like to live in Scotland and own similar properties to those ones in Cornwall!
If we move to Scotland, I want to open a dog friendly B&B Katie ;)

TBH we had that much trouble trying to take our dogs on holiday,we ended up buying a static van @ the coast which we used for about 3 years.
there are plenty of properties who will take one medium - 2 small dogs, but i haven't had less than 3 dogs for the past 20years.

£15 per stay?
Isn't that less than at the place you've booked in Cornwall?
It still means you have to stay for 3 days minimum to make it worthwhile :suspect:
Any hotel that says they charge for dogs always gets the spanish inquisition from me - if they use 'that tone' to deliver the info ;)
'And what facilities do you provide for my dog for that charge?'
The stiffest tarrif I've come across is £30 per night at Malmaison - Which had me spluttering my enquiry.....
The response was that they provide bedding, bowls, food......
I suppose that's okay then, given their rate for people ;)

well im only going to the hotel for one night, & 3 dogs still gets expensive @ £15 each. the place in cornwall was quite expensive full stop, but £20 for 5* facilities & 100 acres of open land and accepts all the dogs was acceptable.
(dont get me wrong i would have found a cheaper second holiday if anywhere had accepted the 5 dogs i had at the time.)
AAAaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh! ;) I geddit now! ;)

my thoughts entirely, i did find an alternate that had a jacuzzi & pool, but they wouldn't take all 5 dogs at the time.
if you are going pm me for the ladies name to ring direct. and book early. i booked last december for october, everything books up extremely quickly even at £800 a week.

KATIEB_23 27-09-2006, 12:35 Hiya,
I'm looking into places to go for a long weekend in October where we can take Gadget with us.
Because it's just for a weekend it would be great if it were somewhere within an hour or so of Sheffield.
I know its short notice but does anyone have any suggestions?
try peverel of the peak hotel in ashbournes, they allow dogs apparently.
stayed in the hotel last weekend very quaint & in the middle of nowhere.
i'm on the countdown to my doggie holiday @ www.helsburypark.co.uk.
starting to get the dog luggage packed already.

Ooh how exciting!
How come whenever we go anywhere, the dog seems to have more 'luggage' than us?! :loopy:
I would love to go to Helsbury Park for a proper holiday one day next year, but its a bit of a trek just for a weekend ;)
Katie - you could try the smoothhound website (it's a coincidence ;) ), where they have the option to choose 'pets welcome'
I usually use it in conjunction with lateroms.com, as it's like torture trying to find the pet friendly ones on laterooms manually, and smoothhound doesn't have the late booking offers on it
A handy page I found whilst Googling:

well i havent even set off for cornwall yet and i've just booked a week there for next year.
this place is booking fast already.
Hi all, I can vouch for Travelodge- we've stayed in several with our Doberman.
They are pretty consistent and roomy -and there are often offers on - we went up to Edinburgh in late August/Early Sept this year and it was £26 per night for the room + £10 for the duration of the stay for the dog (so just £10 whether its one night or several nights). We don't think that's bad and there's usually one or two near to places we want to visit. Sometimes, rooms are available for just £15. We rarely pay the full price (between £50 and £65) - check out the website www.travelodge.com.
Edinburgh was very pet friendly (OK you cant take dogs into the shops but it was certainly the friendliest place in the UK we've ever visited). Coming back home, we travelled along the Northumberland coast - brilliant for dogs- so many dog-friendly beaches and miles of them! Several travelodges along that route too. This summer, we are thinking of going to Polperro in Cornwall and as luck would have it, there's a travelodge about 16mile away from there- a good base for visiting lots of other places.
We've stayed in b&bs but you never know what you are getting til you arrive- at least with a travelodge you know what the room will look like and its big enough for you not to keep triping over your dog... I think the max number of dogs you can take is 2.
Just to add.....
Travelodge charge £10 per dog per stay - so for one night it can seem steep, but for a few days it's great
We've just got back from Kinross where they were very accommodating with dogs ;)
We dined here (http://www.lomondcountryinn.co.uk/) and would consider staying there in the future :)
time to resurrect this thread again :)
http://www.theraggedcot.co.uk/
It looks like they are MORE than welcoming to four legged people - and mud :D
... and we've actually stayed in this one:
http://www.thecrowninn-cotswolds.co.uk/
Highly recommended
Give Raffa and Paisley a skritch from us whilst you're there ;)
JarvisCocker 19-03-2009, 14:25 Oooo great, glad this has popped up as I'm currently looking for a weekend away for us with Evie for my birthday in July.
I like the look of The Ragged Cot.
Can anyone recommend any coastal places to stay?

Where abouts on the coast are you wanting to go? Ive got a book 'pet friendly places to stay' so can have a look for you! :)
JarvisCocker 19-03-2009, 14:40 Thanks Lynz&Roz, I've got the book too, and I've gone through a lot on various websites. Just wondered if anyone had stayed anywhere in particular and had a great time and would recommend.
I ideally wanted somewhere about 2-3 hours drive away, on the coast, with great dog friendly beaches and dog friendly pubs and eateries!
Don't want much do I?!
Does anyone know anywhere dog friendly at short notice??
We stayed in one at the Isle of Wight a couple of years ago which was lovely but we don't want to go that far this time (and whilst the cottage was lovely, it would seem the Isle of Wight are less tolerant of dogs than I first thought... ok if you can go on nice walks but if you can't go on long walks it mean spending all day at the cottage because you can't take them anywhere 'normal' with you!)
My mum gave me the option of a family meal with all the family or a weekend away with the close family (mum, dad sister and her boyfriend) with the dogs for my 21st birthday...
I'm sure you know which I chose.
Unfortunately things kind of went pear shaped and now we need to find somewhere and my birthday's in April!
Any ideas? Or should I have another birthday, like the queen??
Lynz&Rox 19-03-2009, 14:47 We bought ours because we havent stopped anywhere with Rocky but go to the coast quite alot and if we did want to stay one night we would know where to go! We camp normally! And go to haven on the sun holidays which are great for us and the dogs! Bridlingtons good for dogs on the beach because on either end, even in the summer you can take dogs on. Also alot of the pubs will let dogs in.
I like the look of this place too - and they're doing a deal for easter too

Can anyone recommend any coastal places to stay?ooo - yep!
prince of wales - southport (http://www.britanniahotels.com/hotel_home.asp?page=134) - 2 miles of beach for your dog to bound about on! none of the usual seaside tat. quick hop on the train for shopping in liverpool (mind you, shopping in southport is a good day out too)
you can find the hotel on laterooms too

Ive found one in Whitby town centre. Sleeps 5. Enclosed garden. Pets free of charge! www.directwhitbyaccom.co.uk.
Dont know what its like but there recommended by a dog mag!
Whitby might be good because theres stuff to do too!!! :) And when we went the pubs and stuff seemed dog friendly!

I've tried Felicity House twice, last year and this and it gets booked up VERY quickly. I'm not surprised cos it looks lovely. And a lot of cottages I've tried don't allow weekend breaks in the summer months. I guess they would rather someone book it for a week.
There are a couple of guest house in Whitby that allow dogs to stay.
We haven't actually stayed there JC, but we have partaken of a rather nice whisky in their fantastic victorian lounge in front of a real fire, and the staff were all really nice and friendly
Oh fab thanks Lynz&Rox...
I've just found a beautiful little barn in Little Corby (Carlisle) that's available the dates we want it too... found it via cottages4you.co.uk which has the option to select pet friendly.
Really good price too but will take a look at the one you've mentioned as there may be more to do there for the less able bodied... Little Corby sounds lovely near the Lake District but not sure how accessible it is...
Lynz&Rox 19-03-2009, 15:09 Just took off felicity house off because looking there didnt seem much to do round there!
But the one in whitby looks good. And there is alot to see and do.

Just took it off for lotti because it doesnt do weekends! And it doesnt look like there is much to do there! Would be nice to go if you didnt want to do much but walking.
Il put it back up just incase anybody else wants to look though!!!!

Staithes is only abut 10 miles from Whitby, so if you wanted to stay somewhere a bit quieter but still easily be able to visit Whitby I would say it sounds ideal.
I'm just looking at one my friend sent me through now, I'll put the link up if it looks OK. Thats in Staithes too.
I need to have a trawl through some of these:
http://www.nationaltrustcottages.co.uk/home
but the search facility looks good, and some of the properties are divided up into apartments which would make staying with a larger party more viable :)

We've stayed in the Lakes with Eves Lottie. Its really nice and dog friendly, lots of pubs allow dogs in. It can get absolutely mobbed at peak times in places like Windermere, Kendal and Keswick. Don't however be tempted to go anywhere near Morcombe, its the pits! The coast up there is rubbish, stick to the countryside parts they're lovely.

I didnt realise it was near whitby!!!!! If there local pub allowed dogs it would be good. Go to whitby and round in the day then go and have a pub tea and a drink in a quieter place. Then stumble back to the cottage!!! :D Not that i am ever drunk in charge of a dog!!!! :hihi:
oh thanks JC - dog friendly pubs is what we like!! We'd be going in April so not really peak time...
Lynz&Rox 19-03-2009, 15:30 Just seen this one that says it has cottages in the lakedistrict. www.crossfieldcottages.co.uk. It says they have no silly rules and its a pets paradise!!!! :)
JarvisCocker 19-03-2009, 15:43 oh thanks JC - dog friendly pubs is what we like!! We'd be going in April so not really peak time...
It could be peak chuck, when are the kids off school for Easter? They have two weeks at Easter and I think different parts of the country may stagger the school hols slightly.
JarvisCocker 19-03-2009, 15:54 Do you know what I've found a bit bizarre, when you stay in a guest house, although they say they allow dogs in the rooms, they don't allow them in the dining room. I suppose this is for the benefit of other guests, fair enough. But I wasn't very happy when we were told to put Evie in the car while we had our breakfast, cos she also wasn't allowed to stay in the room unsupervised either!
Another place we stayed saw that we had brought her travel crate, and said she was OK to stay in the room unsupervised if she was in that. Of course we didn't tell when she broke out of it and we found her snuggled up on the queen size bed
Hahahaha - trust Evie!
I never thought about Easter... we are going at the end of April though... Will check it out first.
Thanks Lynz&Rox will take a look at that one too... I'm hoping this converted barn is suitable though and not at peak time because it looks gorgeous and if it wasn't for the fact that sister and her boyfriend would get the en suite then it'd be perfect!
Not sure how enclosed the garden is but that's not such a big issue really...
Oh wow!!
Pets Welcome
We are veterinary surgeons and encourage and enjoy our guests bringing their pets to stay with them - Dogs/Cats/Birds! Any reasonable number and size of well behaved dogs are welcome, they sleep in your cottage, which has its own fenced patio outside.
There are well fenced fields for your dogs to have a good play. There is also a kennel with a run available as dogs are not allowed to be left unattended in the cottages
That sounds ace! It also looks more expensive though and I'm not sure first floor accomodation is a good idea... a lot of money to waste if I end up unable to use the stairs!
I haven't found a practical way to search this site yet, but there are some fantastic properties, and some do allow dogs (it's just a matter of finding them!)
http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.9296
[edit] sussed it! http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.18524 - hover over the facility required, and the properties on the map highlight [second edit] it's buggy

I thought that when i saw it!! I bet its lovely to beable to let the dogs out and know they are ok with it all been fenced off. Especially if the weathers good and you can sit outside for a drink at night. :) And they really do want dogs there because they have a kennel and run for them!!!
It does look expensive though! :(
geerarffe 19-03-2009, 22:49 http://www.sysonby.com/pet_friendly_hotel_accommodation_melton_mowbray_le icestershire.htm
Expensive but worth it!
We are going here in July and i cannot wait :hihi:
http://www.littledumpledale.co.uk/
We are staying in Wyns cottage it will be my mum and Dad, my Nan Mr Adz's mum, us 2 and 4 dogs woo hoo, heaven in my opinion all the people i love together  (my mum and Dad, nan and 2 dogs live 3 hrs away from here so going on holiday with them is a real treat).
The people who own the farm support the sighthound forums and are also on dogpages. They are very kindly donating £50 to greyhound gap from any booking made through greyhound gap which i thought was generous. The place is so dog friendly with fully secure gardens that are huge!!
Come on let it be july :D
MARY POPPINS 20-03-2009, 15:33 We have stayed here a few times, have stayed in the house as well as the cottages, it is beautiful with acres f land to wander about in, the owner lets you go anywhere on his land, then there are some lovely walks really near as well,Scotland is really beautiful
