Ive just come back off holiday from a lovely English sea side town. This is my second English sea-side holiday this year.Everywhere there were notices up in hotels and boarding houses ,saying "No Vancancies". With all the trouble at the airports, delays, luggage problems, etc; Im really pleased that it looks like these sea-side towns are coming back into fashion.

I wouldnt say they where coming back into fashion, although did the traditional British seaside holiday ever go out of fashion ?

It might have something to do with all theses dodgy looking Muslim types in big coats wanting to blow us up when we are flying overseas and some paranoid familys are deciding to have their summer holidays in Skeggy or Blackpool instead.

And with weather like we've been having recently why would you want to go anywhere else....We still havent had any rain of note for ages and although its a little blowy today, still going out in t.shirts and summer gear.
Can't beat it really.

You didn't make it up to the Middlewood Festival yesterday then then? (It's a long way to drive and then not find a parking space.) :hihi:

No but I was there in spirit and had my fingers crossed all day for the weather to hold. Sorry, I wasn't very good was I?
Still by all accounts it was a great day despite that and I just might get to the next one.
Ours was gorgeous and I DID feel guilty.:)

Yes, bit off topic there weren't we. Well I love Bournemouth and have been here for a few years now.
When I was in Sheffield I liked Skegness for the odd day trip and Mablethorpe was quite nice as well.
Blackpool when the lights started was a good day out for me and my children. they liked the beach, we liked the lights and and I enjoyed the ride there and back so we all got what we wanted.Only ever the half day trip though. We always took a picnic and until my daughter went with college when she was 18, she never knew the amusement park existed.....haha I saw to that.
I have never stayed for a holiday and do prefer somewhere like here for that.
Weather is always good and nowadays something for all age groups.

Yes it does....Bournemouth Pier and Boscombe Pier which is sadly partly if not completely closed now. They keep coming up with plans but have not done anything yet. It's about 3/4 of a mile between them but is a nice walk along the seafront plus a little train that runs between and beyond.
Most of the hotels now are central but good frequent bus service to Poole and Christchurch.
There is a good website that gives good information for visitors and residents alike but not sure how to post a link. If you just tap in Bournemouth in your search you'll spot the one. I think its www.bournemouth.gov.uk but no idea how to post a link on here.sorry:blush:
Yes it is a bit hilly around the shops, I tend to go into Poole where I can do it all on the flat but I do go into town occasionally. Also they have fishing trips from there so you could shop while your husband fishes......
Some nice hotels as well so I'm sure you'd enjoy it. Anyway try the website, see what you think. Oh and the sun always shines.....:)

Oooh I did it.hehe

I used to love Brid and Scarborough, they have some brilliant little backstreet shops there where you can buy cheap crap and souveneers. Im an absolute sucker for shops like that, it stems back to when i was a kid and had pennies to spend in Cleethorpes.

I know its not England but we had a few days in North Wales a couple of weeks ago, and would highly recommend Llandudno. Our 4 1/2 year old had a cracking time.

Lovely pier, and even a Punch and Judy on the prom. He loved every minute.

I used to love Skeg and as my nan lives there used to go a lot. Used to go to Eastbourne and Brighton a lot as have family down there to - both decent enough places although there's a lot less grannies to dodge in Brighton :)

I'd much rather jump on a plane to Ibiza now tho' to be honest :D

Apparently for the mega-posh its never gone out of fashion, and they have always done things like rent a house (or rather, use their own summer house ;)) for the whole summer. A lot of middle class folk have got into the old holiday cottage thing too, and beach huts have been the 'thing' for a few years - in some areas they change hands for upwards of £100k +. There's even an offshoot of Country Living magazine called Coast devoted to it.

.....................

Love it!

Blackpool and Llandudno are fixed in the seventies, is that what people really want today or am I showing my age.

In my teens/twenties I used to go to Blackpool two/three times a year but not today, OK if you are on a stag/hen party. Llandudno is Blackpool in Wales; say no more, I would rather have south coast or south Wales/ Cornwall these days

Yesterday morning I woke up to discover that I was a Hungarian gypsy living with a hunched back wife whom wore a black scarf around her head. I wore ill fitting dungarees that were too short in the body and were extremely uncomfortable. We lived in a small caravan that was pulled by a disheveled gay donkey and grew potatoes in buckets that were easily transportable and thus suited our nomadic existence.

Early this afternoon my wife told me to collect fire wood so she could cook our lunch., so I went out in search of branches and twigs. My searching took me to the edge of a great sprawling city. Intrigued I carried on walking and soon found myself deep within an area that contained many brick houses.
