I take it lager is not allowed.

I had some lovely, fruity Abbot Ale in the Red Deer a few months back - it was a cold wintry night (err a bit like tonight), their fire was burning, the conversation was good...so this may have enhanced the overall experience but it was a lip smacker of a pint!

Locally the best pint to me is Timothy Taylors Landlord in the Sportsman Fullwood.

before that I used to love a pint of (after persuading the staff to serve two halfs in one pint glass) Red Erik (lager but...with a bite) in the Sheaf View

I'm sure I've had even better pints but....I just can't remember them! :lol:

Devonshire Cat: Anything on tap is good! Particually the Leffe and their tap fruit beers (Leifmens Frambozen and Fruli) 100s of bottled beers from all over the world too!

Sheaf View: has the legendary Erdinger Dunkel on tap.. Mmmm Lovely! :D

Down to one night a week, to see old mates that are clinging on! More and more are migrating to the Brook, glad your enjojing it though. BRILLIANT BEER GARDEN! (as you know):thumbsup:

Keep driving on the main road past the Shiny Sheff for about 4 minutes and it's on your left hand side. The 3 Merry Lads is a lil bit further up on the right. Both nice places and do good food.

Agree with the comment that the Tim Taylors is excellent there, nice comfy local pub on the edge of the Peaks. Also the Three Merry lads, albeit a bit more of a restauranty pub serves a great pint of Kelham Island's Easy Rider.

I have to disagree about going to the Lescar. I know the Porter Brrok isnt the best and most welcoming pub, mainly because it lacks individual character. But I went to the Lescar about two months ago, and found the pint of London Pride I had stale, the staff unfriendly and a rather odd and almost confrontational mass of clientelle. In fact that was rather a bad crawl, we then went to the Stagm which did serve a nice pint of Deuchars, but for a pub that looks great on the outside it was cold and shoddy inside. Went also the the Devonshire Arms opposite the Wards Brewery. Again looks lovely from the outside and full of promise, but was a disaster of seemingly 1980's knock through, bright, and very naff looking inside!
Re your comments about the lescar, i'ts been going down hill for about three - four years - since duncan took it over, (in my opinion) (Andy78 would not agree!) I have loads of good Lescar stories going back years - maybe I should post my memoires! I know a great story about a 'zulu' in full dress getting out of a taxi to give the then landlords (George and Margaret) an ear bashing cos he said he was banned on racist grounds, he had a spear and the whole costume, turned out to be the locally famous 'chico' from broomhall!

A pint of Wentworth Brewerys Rock Spalt from the Commercial in Chapeltown is about the best pint you can get around here! :thumbsup:

Pictish Brewers Gold at kelham Island Tavern; Hillsborough Pale Ale at Hillsborough Hotel (although Oakham's JHB was very good they sold a nine gallons before 9.30p.m. and the Roosters Special was god too) Moonshine at Fagans.

thats what my dad says too! he likes to buy a barrel of it from the brewery with a pump (which anyone can for a fee & you makle sure you take the barrel back) so he can drink it at 'om too!
